Past Members section

Is it necessary to have Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice) and Melanie C (Sporty Spice) be in the past members section? I've read the entire Wiki article and Spice Girls-GEM seems to be a sub-group similar to Girls' Generation-TTS. Also, I don't recall any statements on Posh and Sporty quitting Spice Girls. Can anyone fill me on why Sporty and Posh are in the "Past Members" section? Thanks. Tibbydibby (talk) 17:58, 9 September 2016 (UTC)

I think that with the information we have right now, it's fair to put them in the past members section. Mel B has made it clear that "GEM" was simply the name of their website and they're going ahead with new material sans Mel C and Victoria. Mel C additionally clarified that she wouldn't be part of a reunion project. Traveltoromantis (talk) 18:37, 18 September 2016 (UTC)

Someone needs to stop putting Victoria as past member. She is always a spice girl even though she can't do reunion tour. Please change it back. Spiceboybaz (talk) 15:45, 6 March 2019 (UTC)

Vandalisation of the article

The comment "y'all are the stupidest scorpion in the whole wide world. I do not know how to do anything but your heart is so dumb" has anything to do with this article? Please remove it as soon as possible. Thank you. Carmen Petrache (talk) 17:16, 8 October 2019 (UTC)

Current/Past Members

I reverted an edit that placed Victoria Beckham as a "Past Member". The original edit broke the infobox, but I also see no reason to separate Beckham from the rest of the group. The Spice Girls aren't making any new music and they aren't touring either. The only foreseeable project keeping the band "active" seems to be the planned animated film which involves all five members. As such, all five members appear to be equally active/inactive and should either all be listed as "current members" or "past members". Bennv3771 (talk) 12:36, 18 October 2019 (UTC)

I stand by your comment, someone keeps adding VB as a past member. And it’s very annoying. She is always going to be Posh Spice and none of them are actively making music at the moment together. BarryCoke (talk) 04:34, 14 February 2021 (UTC)

"2018–present"

The infobox currently says the group is active "2018–present" as does the members section, but only for four of the members. The group, as a foursome, announced they will reunite for a 2019 tour, nothing more was ever confirmed, and that's been over for two years now. The only future project announced is the animated movie with all five members. Per WP:CRYSTALBALL, Wikipedia shouldn't take for granted that the movie will definitely happen and the group has not announced any other plans to follow the 2019 tour whatsoever. So why is the group as a whole considered active, and why only four of its members? Bennv123 (talk) 16:39, 25 April 2021 (UTC)

Any objections to changing "2018–present" to "2018–2019" in both the infobox ("Years active") and the Members section? Bennv123 (talk) 16:28, 1 May 2021 (UTC)

Are the group active as of 2021?

There's been some back-and-forth with regards to whether the page should classify the group as currently active. My stand is that it should not as the group is not actively making new music or touring, nor have they announced that they will do so.

On the other hand, their record label is re-releasing a "Wannabe" 25th anniversary EP. However, Universal has also done numerous re-releases of the Spice Girls' music to celebrate past anniversaries and, in general, record labels do this with inactive/dead musicians all the time.

As far as secondary sources go, the media refers to the group members as "former Spice Girls" ([1][2]). At the same time, every time the group members so much as take a picture together, you get articles about how "the Spice Girls are back!!!" etc.

Rather than edit warring, please feel free to discuss. Bennv123 (talk) 03:33, 27 June 2021 (UTC)

@Lalalemonade: Are there reliable sources that say the four-piece are currently active as a band without Beckham? I can see why the band might be considered "active" with the record label's release of Wannabe 25, but as Beckham is also on that record, I don't see why only 4 members should be considered active on that basis (beyond WP:CRYSTALBALL about unverifiable future tours). Tense

Why is the article written in the past tense when the group is not over? Example: "They wrote their songs" and "They did not play instruments". That leads the reader to believe the group no longer exists. I believe it should be written in present tense. Johnnyrickes (talk) 15:21, 3 October 2022 (UTC)

Not a songwriter like the other 4?

Not included in 'Spice Girls' writing credit? 2600:1017:B807:880E:FC65:1353:4BB0:FB79 (talk) 04:36, 12 December 2022 (UTC)

Who are you referring to? As the article states, all five (Adams, Brown, Bunton, Chisholm and Halliwell) are included in the "Spice Girls" writing credits for the first two albums. Halliwell was not credited in the third album because she had left the group by then. Bennv123 (talk) 04:44, 12 December 2022 (UTC)
You'll need to be more specific if there is an error somewhere in the article regarding writing credits. Bennv123 (talk) 06:01, 12 December 2022 (UTC)

Shouldn't Michelle Stephenson be listed under Former Members?

Indeed, the other five are well-known as the Spice Girls. But the fact that Stephenson advanced out of the auditions, was a member of Touch, performed live, and recorded/lived with the group for under a year means that she was, technically, a former member. Touch and Spice Girls are different names, but they both fall under the same umbrella.

Other examples on Wiki, of members that are listed as former yet the band name was different: Faith No More (Mike Morris/Wade Worthington in Faith No Man), Our Lady Peace (Paul Martin/Jim Newell in As If), Sevendust (Lee Banks in Rumblefish), Cypress Hill (Mellow Man Ace in DVX), The Offspring (Jim Benton/Marcus Parrish/Doug Thompson in Manic Subsidal), Insane Clown Posse (Kid Villain/D-Lyrical in Inner City Posse), Godsmack (Lee Richards in The Scam), All Saints (Simone Rainford in All Saints 1.9.7.5), New Kids on the Block (Mark Wahlberg/Jamie Kelly in Nynuk), Beastie Boys (Jeremy Shatan in The Young Aborigines).
