Proper formatting

Because one specific IP keeps reverting it, just want to remind people of several guidelines and rules with film articles and their infoboxs, per wp:MOSFILM. These include: -linking the first appearance of a name, not second or third -the year of the film doesn’t get listed in the top of the lead until the film is released or premieres (as it could be delayed/moved up) -all of infobox should be listed the same (unbulleted, plainlist or none)

Cheers! TropicAces (talk) 01:07, 21 August 2019 (UTC)

@TropicAces: I don't see what you're saying about the release date in the MOS you linked. I read under WP:FILMLEAD: "At minimum, the opening sentence should identify the following elements: ... the year of its public release ...." which suggests to me that the planned year of release (if there is a reasonable prediction or statement in a reliable source) should be mentioned. As for the rest I generally agree: the infobox should either use bullets throughout or not, and the guideline you want for linking is WP:OVERLINK. @IP: I can't ping you because your IP address changes rapidly, but please participate in the discussion here and do not keep reverting. Thanks. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 12:13, 22 August 2019 (UTC)

Composer

One guy keeps insisting Hans Zimmer is still on board as composer, when the article claimed he was "on tap." A later source says Kris Bowers is the composer, with no mention of Zimmer co-composing, with our article misinforming that Bowers is ANOTHER composer. With additional confirmation, the official website from Warner Bros. only states Bowers as the sole composer. I say we should fix the info. what do you think? Voices of Taz and Road Runner

Earlier today between 16:38-16:40, Brian K. Tyler typed in the Voice Cast section that Jim Cummings will voice the Tazmanian Devil and Paul Julian will voice Road Runner in the movie. Later on, Acrystalguy said at 20:21 "It might be best to wait until official confirmation of the voice roles for certain characters, as it's unknown who will voice the Tasmanian Devil or Road Runner". Despite the fact that 1. At 16:38, Brian K. Tyler added in the notes "I actually found a confirmation of Jim Cummings' Twitter page that he's playing Taz for this movie" as well as the link at 16:40: "https://twitter.com/jimcummingsacme/status/1376600645906493442?s=21" and 2. Paul Julian has voiced the Road Runner since he and Wile E. Coyote's first cartoon until his death. And since then, archive recordings of Julian are used whenever Road Runner appears in all types of Looney Tunes media. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:8801:80:4620:787F:9028:56BB:C678 (talk) 01:50, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

Should we mention that Cancel Culture has cancelled Pepe and Speedy and are trying to cancel this movie as well? --MerrieMelodian (talk) 22:24, 9 March 2021 (UTC)

MerrieMelodian, they won't cancel the film, but if any characters are being removed/edited from this, then that can be added to the article provided that it has sourcing. AngusW🐶🐶F (barksniff) 23:12, 9 March 2021 (UTC)

Trailer Release Date

The release trailer of Space Jam A New Legacy will come on Easter Saturday April 3rd, when the fans were talked about the trailer last month on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook.

The second trailer date will be on June 9th, or the 10th. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.18.32.176 (talk) 14:45, 9 June 2021 (UTC)

Live-action landmark

Let’s not forget that Space Jam: A New Legacy is the fourth Warner Animation Group film to feature live-action moments. The first three were the Lego Movie, the Lego Ninjago Movie, and the Lego Movie 2: the Second Part, so I figure that’s relevant enough to submit. Animated or not

Watching the tailer for Space Jam: A New Legacy it seams to be more animated then first thought does anyone know if it is animted or live action animated the definition use on the highest grossing animated films page

An animated feature film is defined as a motion picture with a running time of more than 40 minutes, in which movement and characters' performances are created using a frame-by-frame technique. Motion capture by itself is not an animation technique. In addition, a significant number of the major characters must be animated, and animation must figure in no less than 75 per cent of the picture's running time.

Negative Reviews

It’s pretty clear the film is receiving negative reviews from critics, and a user even cited a review roundup consensus to support this claim (if cited aggregators and reviews in the article weren’t enough). A few select editors are constantly reverting this claim in the lead without explanation, likely because they’re a fan of the series and don’t like seeing it thrashed.

Can we get a consensus on the Talk to have the review summary in the lead worded/cited one way or another to avoid a full out edit war? Cheers. TropicAces (talk) 13:00, 17 July 2021 (UTC)

I wouldn't worry too much. Eventually, the interest in this movie will pass, and the article will be more stable. Till then, we can just deal with it. isento (talk) 16:11, 17 July 2021 (UTC)

Box Office results

Box Offce Mojo lists the film as making 112.7 Million in Mexico which is more than double the current Domestic total of 44.8 Million....Clearly this is a mistake. Box Office Mojo needs to be removed from the page and a more reliable source found. 172.58.107.88 (talk) 10:20, 30 July 2021 (UTC)

It's possible Box Office Mojo added an extra 1 and the actual total in Mexico is 12.7 Million. 172.58.107.88 (talk) 10:40, 30 July 2021 (UTC)

Additional info to put into the article

Penelope Pussycat was present in the film's merchandising and advertising as part of the Tune Squad, but was nowhere to be seen in the finished movie (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DBGKJV6E_QQ). I guess she was likely taken out due to Pepé Le Pew's removal.

Michael B. Jordan was invited to do his cameo appearance because he was visiting the set and hanging out with LeBron James. Malcolm D. Lee was interested in having Michael Jordan appear in a post-credits scene saying that he "took it very personal" after Bugs Bunny shows him the movie as a reference to The Last Dance, but the idea didn't materialize (https://ew.com/movies/space-jam-new-legacy-director-postmortem/).

Zendaya was called up by Ryan Coogler, whom she wanted to work with, to voice Lola Bunny and has been a fan of the original Space Jam to to her family having a basketball history and was surprised by the controversy surrounding Lola's new design (https://ew.com/movies/zendaya-space-jam-lola-bunny-interview/). Don Cheadle also revealed that he was interested in the project because being a MJ fan (https://ew.com/movies/space-jam-new-legacy-don-cheadle-interview/).

Joe Pytka has expressed a hatred towards this film ,prior and after its release, and his opinion should be put in the Critical response section (https://ew.com/article/2016/11/15/space-jam-20th-anniversary-joe-pytka/ and https://www.cbr.com/original-space-jam-director-rips-lebron-james-sequel/).

Can someone please remove Box Office Mojo as a source for the box office results there numbers seem impossible. They currently list over half of the box office gross (112.7 Million of 203.1 Million) as coming from Mexico. The Numbers probably list a more accurate gross for the film right now and that source is already on the page to. 172.58.107.88 (talk) 12:00, 2 August 2021 (UTC)

Apparently Box Office Mojo updated the page and lowered the Mexico gross to just 5.6 Million and the Global gross to 118.6 Million so I'm removing my edit request. 172.58.107.88 (talk) 20:00, 2 August 2021 (UTC)

Warner Bros. references

Juli4ana 4gui4r added about 8,000 bytes worth of information to the Warner Bros. references heading of the article. Ahecht reverted the edit, indicating in an edit summary that it was overly detailed. Juli4ana 4gui4r then readded the information (albeit formatted differently). I agree with Ahecht per WP:INDISCRIMINATE, which states in part that Wikipedia not an indiscriminate collection of information and that merely being true, or even verifiable, does not automatically make something suitable for inclusion in the encyclopedia.. I'm going to revert back per WP:BRD. We really shouldn't include an exhaustive list of what appears to be 200+ characters who made cameos in the movie. Juli4ana 4gui4r, is there any specific information that you think is really necessary to include in this heading? Please let us know here before re-adding this material back in. Thank you. Aoi (青い) (talk) 23:26, 17 November 2021 (UTC)

I may have been a bit snarky in my edit summary, but that list did include 9 Batman characters and I couldn't resist. While I appreciate the work that went into compiling this list and properly linking to all the characters, a list of 200+ characters that appeared briefly in the background of a movie isn't helpful in this context. I was tempted to just tag it with {{Overly detailed}}, but that template encourages moving to a stand-along list, and I just don't think the notability is there as there isn't really coverage of the group as a whole outside of the sorts of places that publish "100 hidden things you didn't notice" articles and videos every time a new movie comes out. This sort of information would be good to put on a Fandom Wiki (I haven't looked, but I assume there's one for Space Jam). --Ahecht (TALK

Lead changes

@TheVHSArtist:, I'm all for bold edits, but once it's been challenged, protocol calls for discussion first before restoring said edit (WP:BRD). Granted, I did introduce some new copy edits while restoring the fragment about critical reviews, which was meant to be directly faithful to Rotten Tomatoes' summary of the consensus, which is verified within the article. Now, what part of my recent edit is at issue and why? Piotr Jr. (talk) 16:42, 8 February 2022 (UTC)

I don't want to focus any further on this article. But I hope you consider my reasoning. RT says the consensus among critics was " The website's critical consensus reads, "Despite LeBron James' best efforts to make a winning team out of the Tune Squad, Space Jam: A New Legacy trades the zany, meta-humor of its predecessor for a shameless and tired exercise in IP-driven branding." And I believe my phrasing captures that. Piotr Jr. (talk) 07:55, 9 February 2022 (UTC)

First of all, none of the reviews (one of which is paywalled) I’ve read mention anything about meta-humor; second, other articles for films I’ve seen don’t use sentences like “critically the film was a failure,” they use phrases like “positive” or “negative reviews”. I figured that would have been the case here, considering that that edit was there when I first started editing the article. Also, articles I’ve seen tend to avoid using words like “mock”. TheVHSArtist (talk) 11:38, 9 February 2022 (UTC)

Awards are defined as prizes given in honor of an achievement. Mock awards like the Raspberries don't honor but mock. Piotr Jr. (talk) 12:31, 9 February 2022 (UTC)
