Banned

I removed the sentence "The movie was banned in Iraq because the movie features Saddam Hussein as a homosexual." Virtually all movies were banned in Iraq during Saddam's era! -- Eagleamn 06:42, 16 October 2005 (UTC)

  • True. Then again, if it is possible to 'really, really ban' something, this would probably do it in Saddam's Iraq. -Litefantastic 00:45, 14 December 2005 (UTC)
  • I don't think that line should of been deleted. I am sure there has been many things banned under his regime, but simply the fact that this movie actually featured 'him' and he was somewhat of a key character. I think it should be mentioned. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tydamann (talkcontribs) 05:51, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

controversy creates controversy

I feel like many of the statements made in the "Controversy" section of this article require citation. For instance, it would be nice to see an external link that affirms the author's allegation that film critics responded positively to the movie. Grammar nazi 09:23, 27 December 2005 (UTC)

I'm surprised they havent made fun of the ultimate controversey of did the USA actually land on the moon? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.49.68.102 (talkcontribs) 22:53, 13 April 2006 (UTC).

I have a quick question.

I'm currently making my own South Park DVDs and with my settings I am able to fit 48 episodes and still have room for at least the movie. But my problem is I just dont know after which episode I should watch the movie. Thanks in advanced. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.49.68.102 (talkcontribs) 22:40, 13 April 2006 (UTC).

It doesn't really matter. I saw this before I saw any of the other episodes, and I still found it funny. Chronologically (by air date) it would be after Tweek vs. Craig (305). Another possibility is to put it at the end of Season 3, since that would be after 48 episodes. Out of curiosity, what program are you using to make them? Corky842 18:43, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

Merging....

There's been call to merge in the character stubs & a number of songs have lost their lyrics due to copyright concerns. Therefore, here is a list of articles that are available for merging, based on the given criteria.

  1. Gregory of Yardale: done; preserved content.
  2. Mole (South Park): done; preserved content, except quotes, which happen to be most of his dialogue from the movie.
  3. I Can Change: done; redirect; no lyrics.
  4. Up There: done; redirect; song is already mentioned in this article.
  5. Asses of Fire: done; preserved content.

Brian Wilson reference

I posted this question on the Brian Wilson talk page as well. In the South Park movie, there was a line about the Canadian government "apologizing" for Brian Wilson. Since Wilson is not Canadian, this does not make much sense. Does anyone know what they were talking about? Or was it just a random stupid joke? (South Park is known for that, but usually there's at least some relevance to their jokes.) --Lurlock 20:19, 14 July 2006 (UTC)

It was Bryan Adams, not Brian Wilson. --ExcellentPearl 21:09, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

Possible Trivia Item?

Could I add to the list of trivia items the fact that Trey Parker got in Duran Duran's Nick Rhodes to provide the voicing for the "Canadian Fighter Pilot" role in this movie? I've never seen the movie but I remember very clearly hearing about this bit of casting, which I confirmed by going to the movie's IMDb page, and people from the Duran fan sites talked about how this particular fighter pilot apparently bombed the Baldwin brothers in a scene. I recognize this is a very minor aspect of the movie, but maybe it's worth mentioning, especially in relation to Trey Parker's and Matt Stone's Duran fanhood. Krushsister 22:27, 31 July 2006 (UTC) (Sorry, edited to reflect my proper username because I didn't know I wasn't logged in.)

Speaking of trivia, I've removed "Both releasing studios of this film each made a movie starring Pee-wee Herman: Paramount made Big Top Pee-wee, and Warner Bros. made Pee-wee's Big Adventure." because it has nothing to do with the movie. Lovok 11:52, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
Good idea, if it has nothing to do with the movie then it doesn't really belong in a trivia section. Cat-five - talk 06:00, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
Trivia section needs to be trimmed. Saying that Stan is revealed to be a computer whiz is hardly of any material interest. Pointing out that Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus is parodied is so obvious I can't imagine it being relevant. 24.18.162.88 06:09, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

Adding point that the title "Bigger, Longer, Uncut" is a fairly obvious reference to an uncircumcised penis, seem to recall either Trey or Matt mentioning it in an interview, will add reference when available. --It's cold out here, and there are wolves after me. Angolon 11:14, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

insulting the reader?

Do we need to insult the reader's intelligence by pointing out that the title is a double entendre? This isn't the simple version of wikipedia. Abc30 00:49, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

Indeed. The article is rife with explanations or jokes, which is not only unsourced and unverifiable, but just plain dumb. No offense. Ashmoo 06:17, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

Kyle's mom is a bitch

On part of the trivia it says that Cartman is saying "...she's a super-king-kamehameha bitch!" He's actually saying "she's a super king-kong mega-mega bitch!"--Yowiki 14:42, 13 September 2006 (UTC) Yo can somebody remove the trivia part where it says Cartman is saying "...she's a super-king-kamehameha bitch!" please?Yowiki 16:23, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

Actually, he says "super King Kamehameha". I just checked it against the closed captioning on the DVD. Koweja 02:08, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

In fact, in one article or another that mentions the song, that exact quote is written as one of the common botched lyrics of the song. 72.11.37.92 00:50, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

One more trivia item

Just added the item about the two aliens. Please verify this and edit it if needed. There might be more aliens throughout the movie, so if someone spots any, please include them in the trivia. As much as I know, the hidden aliens are a running easter egg on South Park. Apparently it's so in the film too. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 212.25.59.8 (talkcontribs) 19:48, 14 September 2006 (UTC).

Saddam & America

"reflecting the tendency of the rulers of many Middle Eastern nations to blame America for their own problems" - This is probably more in reference to America's involvement in Saddam coming into power. From the article on Saddam: "Saddam, and others overthrew Abdul Rahman Arif in the bloodless coup of 1968, again with the backing of the CIA". Kernow 23:10, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

Dragonball Z?

When cartman is unleashing his string of curse words he powers up like in Dragonball Z. Also, I think that when Cartman refers to the Kamehameha in "Kyle's Mom is a Bitch" I always thought he was referring to Dragonball Z and not King Kamehameha. Can anyone else verify because I always thought that'd be some pretty interesting trivia. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.100.12.98 (talkcontribs) 06:15, 1 October 2006 (UTC).

It could be a reference to DBZ but he quite clearly says King Kamehameha rather than just Kamehameha. Gdo01 06:17, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

No. No it doesn't. The german version keeps the scat-video as a german video. No idea who thought that one up, but - removed without replacement. Also, I really should register. Again. 80.137.83.53 15:00, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

it does. from the german wikipedia entry:

Ursprünglich sollte auf der Porno-Website ein Mann Sex mit einem Pferd haben. Sex mit Tieren darzustellen wurde aber verboten. Außerdem ist der Mann im Original ein Deutscher, in der deutschen Version jedoch ein Engländer

roughly, as far as i can tell: blah blah, was originally suposed to be horse-porn, blah blah also the original has german scat, even tho in the german version its english-scat

Japanese Version

I don't understand it. These differences don't seem at all significant enough to mention, and some of them seem like the editor wasn't sure of the facts at all. Where are the sources? Can anyone confirm these? I do not have access to a Japanese version so it is rather difficult to know for myself. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Hyokano (talkcontribs) 01:20, 21 October 2006 (UTC).

I agree, not significant at all - all it basically says is it was translated into Japanese (obviously) and a few minor sound changes. Removing it, feel free to revert if you feel I acted too hastily. Code E 03:51, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

Goofs: V-Chip

Actually, if you watch Cartman while he sings the Brian Boitano song with the other boys, he does not actually sing 'ass' or 'shit'.--Gazzster 06:54, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

I'm not sure how that got in there. It used to be a note about Cartman saying hell near the end. Of course, some people are more concerned about making less trivia or having sources as opposo being factually accurate. -- Scorpion 06:59, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

Goofs: V-Chip II

Sorry to be a pedantic Peter, but about Cartman saying hell toward the end of the film: we'll remember that the chip was malfunctioning, (spoiler coming!) which is the plot device that enables Cartman's potty mouth to save the day. So it is not inconsistent that the chip does not electrocute him. If it was really a gaff, I don't think Trey and Parker would have allowed anything so obvious to make the final cut.--Gazzster 23:07, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

I concur. I figured that by the time he fries Saddam the V-chip is toasted and no longer works anymore. MGlosenger 23:18, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

Asses of Fire

Under the heading Asses of Fire it says "The movie's creators may have found inspiration from the experiences of the star of the rock group The Who's rock opera Tommy, whose title character is sexually molested by his Uncle Ernie." - this contradicts what it says on the Uncle Fucka article which is more believable. It also seems to be an assumption rather than a fact, as it states the shows creators may have found inspiration from etc. Rewrite to match what is says under the Uncle Fucka article? Mary Kay Bergman

The article currently states that Mary Kay Bergman was supposed to perform the song at the Oscars. However, the Oscar nominations didn't come out until about three months after Bergman's death; at the time of her death, there was no guarantee that "Blame Canada" would be nominated, nor even that Bergman would be asked to perform it if it was nominated. However, I can't think of a good way to rephrase this part. --Metropolitan90 16:26, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

"March 18, 2004 — We received this from the official South Park Studios site:

Putting "South Park 2" down as a coming attraction is irresponsible to the fans that you will inevitably dissapoint when they learn the truth that it isn't happening. Matt and Trey do NOT want to work with Paramount again, and they do NOT want to put all that work into a South Park movie again. They have stated that *REPEATIDLY*, it has been stated even *MORE* on the official South Park website. THERE WILL BE NO SOUTH PARK 2. Matt and Trey simply WILL NOT do it. That is OFFICIAL."

I'm pretty sure it's impossible that the movie cost 21,000,000$. The only thing I see expensive in this movie (ahead of George Clooney) is the orchestral music... but my guess is no more that 2,000,000$. 70.82.165.232 (talk) 21:48, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Sp.jpg

Image:Sp.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. I made the change to the "I Can Change" redirect page. I believe it was originally redirecting here because of the musical number used in South Park, which may be better known than the LCD Soundsystem song. GA Review

This review is transcluded from Talk:South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut/GA1. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the review.

Reviewer:Hunter Kahn 15:29, 1 November 2010 (UTC) As a proud member of the WikiProject South Park, I'd love to see this article reach GA status one day, but just a cursory glance at it makes very clear that it's not ready just yet. There are many problems with this article that need to be addressed before it could even come close to GA consideration:

  • The most glaring problem is the complete and utter lack of a "Production" section. There is nothing about the development, pre-production, production, filming or post-production. And I know for a fact there are plenty of sources out there about this for this film. (The DVD commentary track might be a good place to start.) You might also take a look at Death (South Park), a GA, which has information about how that episode heavily influenced the film. Right now, this article makes no mention of that episode...
  • Furthermore, the nominator might want to take a look at WP:MOSFILM to get an idea of what else is currently lacking. For one, there is no "Themes" section, and this film has plenty of those (commentary on censorship, how the parents' priorities are all wrong, violence and strong language in media, etc. etc.).
  • The plot summary is too long. WP:FILMPLOT says a synposis should be between 400 and 700 words, whereas this is currently over 900 words.
  • As it stands, most of this article is taken up by lists. (Cast list, musical numbers, list of distributors, list of awards, list of records). The nominator should take a look at consider changing some of these into prose.
  • The "critical reception" section is extremely brief at two sentences. Some specific reviews should be added.
  • The article as a whole could use a good copy edit, but considering how much work needs to be done, that should be saved for last. Also, a minor point, but the citations should use Cite web or Cite news templates.

Sorry to have to quick-fail this one, but it's just not ready. Please don't be discouraged, and try to take this review as a jumping point from which to make improvements. Thanks! — Hunter Kahn 15:29, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

I worked on some of those sections. If there's still work to be done, let me know. Railer-man (talk) 00:08, 3 November 2010 (UTC)
Sorry, its still nowhere near GA status. Look at an article like The Simpsons Movie (it's an FA), then look at this one. There are a tonne of unsourced statements, the article needs more production info, and more reception. -- Scorpion0422 23:18, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

Then...

Why doesn;t anyone else help on this article? I'm the only one who looks after it. It'll never reach GA status if no one else does their share of the work, because I cannot find a lot of stuff on my own. Railer-man (talk) 23:37, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

Also, I cannot find any review sources that I could see as notable.Railer-man (talk) 23:45, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
Many of us have other things we would rather work on. You can't just count on others to jump in and help you. Try using google news or newsbank, you should be able to find a number of reviews there. Also, IMDB can not be used as a source because its largely user-generated (just like wikipedia). If you want to get this to GA, you're going to have to do it the proper way, not just by re-arranging some things, removing unsourced statements and throwing random refs here and there. Perhaps you should try working on a less ambitious project, like an episode so you can get experience at copyediting and researching, then you can tackle a larger project. -- Scorpion0422 23:53, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

GA review – see WP:WIAGA for criteria

Had a read over the nomination/review history for this, so let's give it another chance.

  1. Is it reasonably well written?
    A. Prose quality:
    B. MoS compliance for lead, layout, words to watch, fiction, and lists:
Prose style is mostly fine, as is MOS compliance. I'd change "cussing" to "cursing" or "swearing" though, as cussing is a regional colloquialism. Also, the "Critical Reception" section could be its own level 2 header outside of "Release".
  2. Is it factually accurate and verifiable?
    A. References to sources:
    B. Citation of reliable sources where necessary:
    C. No original research:
Your references are grand. Everything's sourced and backed up, there's no original research. The claim to the Total Film ranking needs cited though. TF's website may have the article, they post a lot of magazine content online.
  3. Is it broad in its coverage?
    A. Major aspects:
    B. Focused:
The article is suitable broad without losing focus. This was listed as a problem in the past and I'm glad to see it has been rectified.
  4. Is it neutral?
    Fair representation without bias:
    Article is neutral and unbiased.
  5. Is it stable?
    No edit wars, etc:
History is stable, no controversial warring etc.
  6. Does it contain images to illustrate the topic?
    A. Images are copyright tagged, and non-free images have fair use rationales:
    B. Images are provided where possible and appropriate, with suitable captions:
Images seem fine, your fair use rationales seem grand.
  7. Overall:
    Pass or Fail:
Overall, I see no reason not to pass this as a Good Article. I'd still like to see the little wrinkles ironed out, but they're nothing major. Good job.

It's only a quote; it's not important. Plus, if we fit every single 'popular' quote in the plot, then it would be too full. Koopatrev (talk) 02:52, 25 May 2013 (UTC)

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, meaning nothing is censored. If viewers want to look at the background of the film any not receive any spoilers, then they shouldn't use Wikipedia. Koopatrev (talk) 02:51, 25 May 2013 (UTC)

Computer-animated?

Since the show uses computer software to animate, shouldn't the beginning say that South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut is computer-animated? Koopatrev (talk) 02:49, 25 May 2013 (UTC)

Whoops, my fault. Computer animated only refers to CGI. Koopatrev (talk) 17:02, 4 October 2013 (UTC)
