Talk:Sony BMG copy protection rootkit scandal/Archives/2014

Music disc format

The article says this rootkit was found on a CD. However, it is widely known that, like other "copy protected" discs, the music discs involved violated the Compact Disc standard and were not "CDs" in general sense. This is not mentioned in the article. There are several formats resembling the CD standard out there used in mixed media discs, and using them may even violate warranty rules and cripple optical drives. I am not sure what would be the best way to express this in the article, but I think it is relevant, especially in a technical and rights-related matter like this. Serious problems with article

Not withstanding the extreme bias, there are lots of inaccuracies, and virtually nothing has a reliable cite. For example, the cite of XCD being on 22m CDs is mentioned twice, but when you click the cite, it turns out the 20m CD's mentioned is related to MediaMax copy protection, totally unrelated to Firt4Internet's/SonyBMG XCD. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BrianPotter123 (talkcontribs) 14:55, 30 June 2014 (UTC)

Hi there, single purpose account. New topics go below older ones on the talk page. You'll probably need to elaborate on "bias" and be more specific than "virtually nothing" if you don't want to provide better sources yourself. More examples? 172.12.225.38 (talk) 15:29, 30 June 2014 (UTC)
Also, I don't see where XCP (assuming that's what you meant by "XCD") is stated as being on 22m CDs, the distinction between XCP and MediaMax is clearly made. 172.12.225.38 (talk) 15:41, 30 June 2014 (UTC)
