Hey folks how come we haven't put up that Archie is planning to do a Sonic unleashed comic adaption they do confirm it in the same issue as Sonic Chronicles The dark brother hood. Issue 33 of Sonic X for all of you naysayers.Wolly da wanderer (talk) 03:29, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

New Character: Chip

-.- It appears that the manga adaption of Unleashed unviels a new character, Chip the Dog (Who can fly... -.-) It's unknown weather he's exclusive to the manga, or not. Remember, we can't cite this place so, if you see Chip under the characters section, remove him untill further notice. I just wanted to give the heads-up! ;) Skeletal S.L.J.C.O.A.A.A.T.R. Please find a secondary source that states and introduces the character, rather than synthesising your own interpretations or reports (i.e stating character's inclusion, then referencing a video). Synergy/Blades (Talk) 16:19, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

PS2 UK Magazine Scans

http://www.tssznews.com/2008/08/11/ps2-uk-magazine-100th-issue-sonic-scans/ Not much new things, but the old shield pickups are back like Sonic 2, so I think that might be something to add. GENERALZERO (talk) 04:29, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

I didn't notice anything that should be added to the article, however, I found it odd that they used Sonic's art from Rivals, and Nex-Gen, and a few other images from Nex-Gen. If I missed something important, by all means, add it to the article. We cited scand from Camp Sonic, why not TSSZ? Skeletal S.L.J.C.O.A.A.A.T.R. Soul 04:42, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
We haven't cited Camp Sonic in this article, we've cited (using the cite journal template) the magazines that Camp Sonic have scanned in - though occasionally we have provided the scanned image as the URL parameter to the template, it's the correct journal cite information that matters most. That's the difference between a proper cited ref and merely providing a link to fansite scans; should the fansite go offline, the correct citation remains.Synergy/Blades (Talk) 14:38, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

It's not November 18

I've noticed some people keep editing in November 18 as the release date. No source currently cited has any reference to the 18th. If someone can provide a reasonable source that specificly mentions November 18, we can add it in, but otherwise, do not add the 18th or any other date to artical without citing it. LightningLuigi (talk) 19:48, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

As far as I'm aware it's only IPs adding it in. I think all logged-in users who edit this article are well aware that specific dates need to be reverted on sight, unless someone finds and adds a more accurate reference. Synergy/Blades (Talk) 21:01, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

The Full Mykonos Stage

Yes I know this video is from YouTube and that half of the video is people walking in front of the camera but, maybe there might be something useful in the video. [11] Unknown the Hedgehog 16:55, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

No, because we need to report from secondary sources, i.e those reliable gaming sites that report on the primary sources. Look what happened at Sonic Chronicles recently (see the bottom of its talk page) when editors there tried to interpret the primary source for themselves - all sorts of incorrect conclusions were drawn, some of which ended up in the actual article (with a YouTube video used as a reference) before eventually being taken out. Synergy/Blades (Talk) 16:58, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
Well I know Tssznews is considered a fan cite but, they think they saw that Chip/Tip character. [12] Unknown the Hedgehog 17:03, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

(strains eyes) That doesn't even look like Chip. It looks like a crossover between Knuckles, and Rouge. For all we know, it could even by some random dude who flies by during the stage rank! Skeletal S.L.J.C.O.A.A.A.T.R. Soul 20:51, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
The coencidence would be fairly large. The offical magna introduces a new charecter, then a simular charecter appears in the results screen of the game? A large conencidence indeed.
Still, I see your point: this could be a coencidence, and unless someone reliable comes right out and says it, we shouldn't be assumpsive. We should watch the charecter section and make sure someone doesn't jump to concusions and edits "Chip" to the charecters (like I did). LightningLuigi (talk) 22:22, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
If the video were clearer, we could add Chip, but, we still don't know if it's Tip, or Chip. That really wouldn't be too good for the article if we put Chip/Tip. So, yes, let's wait a bit before adding him. Skeletal S.L.J.C.O.A.A.A.T.R. Soul 01:01, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
Well, as you discovered at Chronicles, we couldn't really, as it could just be some random event at the end of a stage, and you would be merely creating your own interpretation of what it is. Hence we'd need a proper secondary source for it. Synergy/Blades (Talk) 01:11, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, now that I know that. If we hadn't had the whole incident the other day, I probably would've added Chip here... Skeletal S.L.J.C.O.A.A.A.T.R. Soul 01:19, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

And with this image, there are only three screenshots of the game, and I believe the artical is large enough to have three images. LightningLuigi (talk) 23:47, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

Shield and Vitality

For the Werehog sections, ring energy changes to shield/vitality. Could someone find a reliable source for what differentiates the two, and either add it to the article or place it here to be referenced correctly? The interview that currently references that this switch happens wasn't particularly clear about which did what, and thus the article doesn't currently explain this (it just states that two bars appear). Synergy/Blades (Talk) 22:55, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

I rewatched the interview, and it explains the "sheild/vitality" thing quite clearly. "Vitality" acts lika a heath bar, depleting when you are attacked and replenishing when you collect rings. While you're holding the LB button (on Xbox 360), you will "guard" and not lose Vitality, but Sheild, untill of course the bar empties. I probabilly paraphased a bit, but the exact details are in the interveiw: 14:55-15:30. LightningLuigi (talk) 00:50, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

Chip proof?

http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/game/docs/20080912/sonic31.jpg

OK, maybe this isn't concrete "proof", but this picture, meant to example the physics of the Hedgehog Engine, shows a screen of a new charecter, oviously resimbling the "Chip" charecter from the magna (he's even holding ice cream), in what appears to be a cut-scene. Now this may not prove this is the "Chip" charecter from the magna, but I believe it's enough to prove there is a new charecter. I believe this is worth mentioning in the charecter section, but what does everyone else think?

PS: More screens (some of which include "Chip") can be accessed by changing the "31" in the URL to any number between 01-39. —Preceding unsigned comment added by LightningLuigi (talkcontribs) 02:34, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

And I must say SynergyBlades, your quick. I too was going to post the CEDEC conference, but you beat me to it. Yes, the pictures are most certianly real, but I must comply to your point that we can not use them to prove this "Chip" charecter, or anything for the matter. According to Watch Impress.co.jp, Sega announced at a recent press conference the Japanese release date for Sonic World Adventure is December 18, 2008, which contradicts the previously assumed worldwide release date. Here's a rough translation of the statement:

Have altered the development section to reflect that the Wii levels are actually similar to the other versions, but with wider levels, and added the name of the Greek level. As for the European one, unfortunately, this scan means we have two sources at odds with each other with regards to the level's name, one with Spogonia and another saying Spagnolia, so I've left both in, indicating conflicting sources. Former from Nintendo Power, the latter from the Official Nintendo Magazine you linked to above. Not sure we can determine which is correct. SynergyBlades (talk) 02:51, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

Also, the charecter page lists seven charecters: Sonic and the Werehog are veiwable, and five charecters are locked (Eggman, Tails, Amy, Chip?, and a human?) I'm very excited to see the site update further, so we can add these new charecters to the artical. LightningLuigi (talk) 22:00, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

Ah, yes; better sources for characters. Now we can get Chip's/Skip's official name, seeing how there's been confusion, and has for the human-like character, I heard a while ago it was a human girl. I haven't heard anything about in a while, so this might have to do with this. Nice find, my friend. GENERALZERO (talk) 22:15, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
Not sure, but, it either looks like a mini Dark Gaia, or that ice cream guy from the manga. Where'd you hear this General? Skeletal SLJCOAAATR Soulsor 22:42, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
It's a little boy from the new screenshot. The heads match... Skeletal SLJCOAAATR Soulsor 23:04, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
Yes, I saw that too. I believe the name on the screenshot literally translates to Arewashisu, but I've heard it translates to Alexis. We'll just have to wait for the site to update to learn more. LightningLuigi (talk) 20:42, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
Actually, it's Alex. Skeletal SLJCOAAATR Soulsor 20:54, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

Are you sure? Sounds about right, since I believe that does indeed translate to Alex? Skeletal SLJCOAAATR Soulsor 21:37, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
Guys, not a forum, etc. - you know the drill by now. SynergyBlades (talk) 21:45, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
Point is, this could actually be useful to the article. Alex's head atches the final spot on the Unleashed site, thus, this Alex kid appears to be a major chracter. More important than Dark Gaia, Knuckles, and Shadow apparently, since he has a profile, and they don't. Ho'ws it fourm talk Synergy? This could very well prove to be quite helpful once we get some more evidence, instead of translators, and two images. Skeletal SLJCOAAATR Soulsor 22:29, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
I agree it might be important, but you've no source for all this other than your back-and-forth about your own translations from a picture on a fansite (original research). SynergyBlades (talk) 22:32, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
Just pointing out, it's also on IGN, an officail site. I just grabbed it off TSSZNews, cause I already had another tab there. Skeletal SLJCOAAATR Soulsor 22:37, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

Chao garden

ive heard talk of it,sadly ive seen no proof, but people insist it will be on this game. 24.170.226.119 (talk) 01:31, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

As far as we know, there will not be a Chao Garden. Also, I suggest you don't believe everything you see here and don't waste space here unless you have something important to contribute. GENERALZERO (talk) 02:41, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
Don't be harsh, Geny! Anyways, no, it doesn't appear so. I don't see why they'd suddenly be brought back. But, a bit of a heads up, if it's not related to the article, ask on a fourm, like IGN (Tell them Soul sent you). K? Skeletal SLJCOAAATR Soulsor 02:50, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

Another Website

Somehow Sonic Unleashed has 2 US websites. I got this info from Camp Sonic. I believe the first site was a "presite," this new one is the real offical Sonic Unleashed website. I've put the new URL in the external links in the artical. And this new site has a lot of new info, like some of the level names, so this shuld be very good for the artical. LightningLuigi (talk) 01:08, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

Offical Europe date?

(Lukeosarus (talk) 17:07, 24 October 2008 (UTC))hi im lukosarus, im new on wikipidia. i always wanted to know about the Europe date for Sonic unleashed! so i made this topic!

Hi, welcome to Wikipedia. The talk pages for articles are not for general discussion on the topic. The article currently has a reference for the European release date (see the big infobox on the right), but it may be incorrect; if anyone can find a more reliable source for the date, they're welcome to put it in there (with reference). (Lukeosarus (talk) 19:53, 24 October 2008 (UTC)) if anybody finds an reliable sorce then we should put up an accurate UK date.

(Lukeosarus (talk) 20:26, 24 October 2008 (UTC)) IGN has sonic unleashed`s release date down as Nov 7th, and Australia`s as Nov 27th! should this be added? i`ll do it for us.

Not a full length animated film

In the Night of the Werehog section it says that it will be a full length 3D animated movie....but is there any confirmation on that? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mamaluigibob (talkcontribs) 05:11, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

I've seen that and that's what I was referring too, and I found it on IGN. Here's the article.

Sonic the Hedgehog is appearing in his first short animated film! Follow along as Sonic and his pal make their way into an eerie haunted house only to discover a bunch of mischievous ghosts looking for a good scare. Stay tuned to see what silliness happens when the full moon comes out and Sonic transforms into the Werehog and goes up against some creepy spirits in Sonic: Night of the Werehog. Can the Werehog keep his cool or will the ghosts own this fright-mare? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mamaluigibob (talkcontribs) 23:28, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

The end of the trailer says "full movie". It stands to reason that it means the full animated short, as opposed to just the trailer. —C.Fred (talk) 13:48, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

I know, but in the article itself it said it was going to be a full length 3D Animated movie, meaning like a 80 minute film. I changed it to a short 3D animated fillm, but I didn't know that it was going to be a 3D feature length film before, and then SLJCOAAATR didn't know what I was talking about and started flaming me, then he reported me for false vandalism. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mamaluigibob (talkcontribs) 20:58, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

Maybe it's going to be in the game (like in the CGI scene selection theater). Or maybe there's going to be a DVD wrapped with the game. We just have to wait longer for more confirmation. Unknown the Hedgehog 22:16, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

Voice actors

Does anyone know if they'll be voice actors in ths game? Bottomlivefan95 (talk) 18:31, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, but these discussion topics are for discussing how the artical can be improved, not for discussing topics related to the artical. But to answer your questions, yes, this game will have voice acting in it. LightningLuigi (talk) 21:34, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

As far as I have heard from Gamespot's E3 coverage of Unleashed from July or August, Griffith is voicing Sonic once again(though I don't have a problem with that)--Wariodude64 (talk) 03:14, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

Okay, sorry, i just had to know :)Bottomlivefan95 (talk) 19:04, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

This does help the article. If you can give us a link to the E3 coverage we could turn it into a reference and get started on a voice actors section. Most video game articles have them, but few Sonic ones source the voice actors actually appearing. That's a mistake that needs to be corrected, and we could always make a start with Unleashed.Fairfieldfencer FFF 19:10, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

Japanese 360/PS3 version pushed back

Acording to the ofical Japanese website for Sonic World Adventure, the 360 and PS3 versions of the game is being pushed back to Spring 2009. The Wii version is still schedled for December 18, 2008.Original Translated

Several other sites, such as Amazon.com, have reported the release date for the 360 and PS3 versions has also been pushed back, but a citable source has yet to post the new dates. LightningLuigi (talk) 22:02, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

Emblems

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BiQexJtRvOQ

In this video you can see various emblems resembling the sun and the moon. What do you suppose they could be for?--Wariodude64 (talk) 03:20, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

From what I've infered, these emblems seem like they unlock new levels in the game. To get to a certain level, you'll need to collect a certain amount of either day or night tolkens to unlock a new day or night level respectively, kind of like how you need a certain amount of stars to unlock new levels in 3D Mario games. Unfortuantly, I don't believe we can cite videos, so we'll have to wait untill someone specificly explains the tolkens to us before we can put it in the artical. LightningLuigi (talk) 14:04, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
I think I may have found an explaination: in this video with a commentary with one of the team managers, the manager mentions Sun and Moon Coins at 1:20, which unlock otherwise inacessable levels.
http://www.gametrailers.com/player/42536.html
Can we cite this? LightningLuigi (talk) 00:26, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
I guess so. There's also X-Play's Hands-on time with it: [20] GENERALZERO (talk) 00:31, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
Yes, as it's an interview with a manager by a third-party source. Have added. SynergyBlades (talk) 01:25, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

i don`t understand about these Sun & Moon coins, are they for Secret stages or Normal? Then again, maybe they are like getting stars in Mario 64! now Sega, thats cool. (Lukeosarus (talk) 16:04, 12 November 2008 (UTC))

It's for Secret Stages and this is not a forum. Go to IGN or something for that. GENERALZERO (talk) 21:25, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

Artical Renovation

Now that the game has been released, I propose that we rewrite the entire artical, based directlt from the game itself, rather than third-party sources. The artical as of now is based on a specutive nature, and lacks detail present in articals of released games. Now that the game is released, we can give much more detail from the game itself than we can from pre-release sources. LightningLuigi (talk) 01:58, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

No, third party sources are what Wikipedia aims to use for all of its article (yes, even in place of the game itself). Indeed, even for gameplay, we need to use third-party sources - in particular, reviews, which tend to cover gameplay well. Plot is the one exception in that if specific detail is required, the game's script may be used to back up the description. Besides which, this article is not bad at all; the development section is comprehensive and provides a good timeline to events, the lead is accurate and broad enough; gameplay could be rewritten to be much clearer, and the reception section will be updated over time. SynergyBlades (talk) 02:18, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
Guidelines on the type of sources prefered may be found here: Wikipedia:No_original_research#Primary.2C_secondary_and_tertiary_sources. Wikipedia articles should rely mainly on published reliable secondary sources and, to a lesser extent, on tertiary sources. All interpretive claims, analyses, or synthetic claims about primary sources must be referenced to a secondary source, rather than original analysis of the primary-source material by Wikipedia editors (which is what you're suggesting). Demo

There was no demo released on the X-Box live, I checked last Sunday and Saturday, and there was no demo, so was it pulled or was ever released? Anyone know, becuase the article says there is a demo there on X-box live and PSN. Thanks Mr.Willison (talk) 05:39, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

It's not on PlayStation Network, either. As we've covered both bases I think it's safe to take this out, mentioning that it was originally planned but never materialised isn't particularly notable. SynergyBlades (talk) 05:47, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

Why is this in the main article?

"Owing to the video's demonstration of two-dimensional, as well as the more recent three-dimensional, gameplay, public anticipation grew; the title was seen as a possible return of Sonic to his traditional platforming roots, especially after the decrease in the series' popularity and critical success after Sonic's transition to three-dimensional gameplay,[15] and a number of poorly received titles in the franchise that preceeded it, such as Shadow the Hedgehog and the 2006 game, Sonic the Hedgehog.[16] However, initial reception has been mixed, with reviewers praising certain elements, such as the sense of speed in daylight stages and the graphics and audio that make up the environments, and negative reaction to others, such as the new Werehog game mechanic, as well as several gameplay and design concepts. Indeed, several reviewers remarked that, despite initial optimism when first revealed to the public, Unleashed was ultimately not the title that would be able to reinvigorate the series, as the reviewers noted was needed to bring the franchise back to prominence.[17][15]"

Okay, now I think that this should be in the Reception section rather than in the main intro page. please move it

It's a lead, it's part of the article's introduction. SynergyBlades (talk) 14:43, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

Chip's real name

Why on Earth would this be included in a list of characters? It completely ruins a major part of the game. Yashouzoid (talk) 01:16, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

Because this is Wikipedia, where we aim for encyclopedic accuracy and thorough coverage of the plot. This is not a gaming fansite with spoiler warnings, and Wikipedia will have spoilers for any major game-with-a-plot you look up. SynergyBlades (talk) 01:36, 27 November 2008 (UTC)
