I agree with Mr. Anonymous above, there are other weapons in addition to the shotgun that use this kind of action. Also the page about the pump-action shotgun should be about the shotgun itself, and this page should be more specific about the pump-action. I absolutely agree- Pump-action does not imply a shotgun, whereas merging would imply that they are.

Why don't they merge pump-action rifle and pump-action shotgun into this article?

A pump action shotgun is a shotgun that uses a pump-action--what more can be said? Everything that needs to be there is covered under those two articles. Even oddball things like the old Tec-9 airsoft gun can be covered by the two articles pump-action and airsoft, so why should pump action shotguns be treated any differently? scot 20:11, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

A merger would not make since here. Would you merge bolt-action into rifle, just because this system is used it many of them? This article compliments the others of this sort of series, such as pump action, lever action, and even the old falling block action. That arguement is nonsensical, because you have it backwards, the question is not would you put bolt-action under rifle, but rifles under bolt action? Should the bolt-action article make any mention of 1903 Springfield, K98s? Or should it speak only of the action and nothing of the equipment using it? Pump-action with a shotgun section in it makes far more sense, because thats already what we are doing for bolt-action (where theres a list of 4 major designs and other), and lever action (which similar to the proposed merge for this, has shotgun category, even involving the same people, Browning and Winchester). 65.95.107.182 (talk) 21:00, 29 December 2010 (UTC)

In any case, merging the two would be unwise until conflicting data is removed from both articles. "Pump-action shotgun," for instance, says that pump action shotguns are slower than semiautos, while the "pump-action" article contradicts it, saying that pump guns are faster. How about more research--verified--with links from "pump-action" to the different kinds of guns that use them for more in-depth discussion?BHenry1969 (talk) 01:36, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

Merger proposal

Both articles contain similar content, whereas pump-action shotgun only covers shotguns, this article covers all designs. Hence, the former should be merged into the latter. Hayden120 (talk) 02:40, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

If a merger is decided there would need to be a section added to about the other main pump action weapon; the rifle, in order to justify the new layout of the new article. The main article would also need to be heavily revise to avoid contradicting itslef and repeating points. 217.39.2.55 (talk) 01:06, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

If y'all don't merge, you might want to consider sources, ... and actual information. Wikipedia is not about a list of the pros and cons of something. Who invented the pump action, and when? What where some of the first models? What are current uses? All you got are What and How out of the "5 Ws and an H". Also, if theres a pump action shotgun article, why not a pump action rifle article? If that doesn't deserve a seperate article then clearly the shotgun is the dominate form of pump action, and belongs in this article. 65.95.107.182 (talk) 20:49, 29 December 2010 (UTC)
