I'm deleting the following sources about the London SITP, as they don't say what the accompanying text claimded they said, and we don't need them to tell the story. Perhaps they may be useful later again though:

The Skepticism 2.0 article in SI by Grothe is useful for this article, but not in the sentence about Sid Rodrigues organising SITPs around the world, as Grothe doesn't mention this at all. I also haven't found any source claiming the very first London SITP was held in February 1999, just in 1999. Any sources proving these two claims are welcome. Internationality

This article is very England-focussed. It needs more about SitP worldwide --Hugh7 (talk) 19:54, 29 December 2010 (UTC)

Agree. The lead is general enough. But the "History" and "Notable Guests" sections are almost exclusively UK-focused. I added a bunch of links to the "Groups" list to create some balance, although I only added those in the US (see new topic below). Can anyone contribute some more U.S. and international history/information?

I'm currently going through every SITP around the world, adding and updating what I can. I agree the History and Notable Guests sections are too UK-focused, more specifically London-focused. The Notable Guests section may even have to be deleted for not being notable enough. At most, you'd briefly mention a few people in a sentence, but an entire list, as if it were a hall of fame, for talks that happen every month for a few hundred people or less, is not encyclopedic. Groups list

I added about 30 new cities in the US. I linked all the refs to the appropriate active external websites. Only about half of the other listed cities (UK and elsewhere) have associated refs. Anyone want to help find and finish the rest?

To make it easy you can cut'n'paste the following:

Just put the city inside the "[[ ]]", and url, title, and date after each "="

Rewrite

I've been thinking about this page for sometime. It is impossible to keep it current, or to keep the notable guests current as there are hundreds if not a thousand by now. My thoughts are to remove all the locations, but put in links for people to find current locations. The ESP has a online resource for people looking for a SitP in Europe. There might be more of these sources. I think an article can be arranged that will be citable for ideas for people to find a nearby SitP event, or how to start one. I've heard a few podcast interviews with people saying how they began their local. Along the way I think we can find some photos. Ideas here folks, but I think I'm going to rewrite this page. I've been having similar thoughts, and decided to take action. My first move is adding pictures, logos and updating information on locations.

On the notable guests I agree with you; we could never keep track of them all, and I think the section as such may even have to be deleted for irrelevance. At most, you'd briefly mention a few people in a sentence, but an entire list, as if it were a hall of fame, for talks that happen every month for a few hundred people or less, is not encyclopedic.

I think the locations are fine, as long as they are properly referenced. Following your suggestion, I've put the ESP "Skeptic events in Europe" calendar in the external links, it is indeed quite helpful for SITPs and similar skeptical events.

About how to set up SITPs. The other external link I added is a SITP workshop at QED 2011 that discusses this. I'm in doubt whether we should list tips here; Wikipedia is here to inform people, not to instruct them. WP:NOTGUIDE stipulates that "Describing to the reader how people or things use or do something is encyclopedic; instructing the reader in the imperative mood about how to use or do something is not. Such guides may be welcome at Wikibooks instead." Perhaps it could be interesting to create a SITP manual on Wikibooks as suggested? Greetings, Nederlandse Leeuw (talk) 02:32, 14 July 2016 (UTC)

Contested deletion

This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because it can be demonstrated to pass GNG. However, it does need a serious rewrite based on RS, and the "notable guess" section seems not notable, certainly not without RS, and we don't need every speaker's CV summarised in short in that place. --Nederlandse Leeuw (talk) 16:13, 5 November 2021 (UTC)
