I don't have an account anymore, but somebody should really update this page to reflect the word "skank" as referring to a lady who sleeps around, which I think is the most widely-known use for it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.94.193.21 (talk) 23:12, 9 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

1. The term "skank" is not fully defined as an individual entry on Wikipedia, as it should rightly be. It is defined on the online Oxford English Dictionary and given a separate entry from "slut", which is a similar word but still a different one. The depiction of the term in various types of media as well as its regular usage in conversation (though considered informal) contributes to the necessity of "skank" having its own Wikipedia page.

Please add the following information:

2. The term "skank" refers to a promiscuous woman, originiating in the United States around the early 1960s. The Oxford English Dictionary defines a skank as " A person (esp. a woman) regarded as unattractive, sleazy, sexually promiscuous, or immoral".[1]It is a variation of the word "skag" which referred to a poor, scruffy person or an ugly woman. The origin for the version of a poor, scruffy version comes from a rare form of British regional word choice. This earliest written record is from 1939. Records from 1938 show that the "ugly woman" version of skank was of African-American origin. A person who is referred to as a skank may be characterized with poor hygiene, sexual promiscuity, or revealing clothing. This derogatory term is often associated with "slut", because both are used to demean a woman by indicating she has uncleanly habits. It is used as a noun, but can be changed to "skanky" for an adjective or "skankily" for an adverb.

"Skank" in the media: The term "skank" has been popularized through modern media, such as in the pop culture film Mean Girls where the two followers of the most popular and feared girl in high school -Regina George- are referred to as her "army of skanks" because they are seen as the most hated and sexually promiscuous girls in the school besides Regina herself. [2]The movie was watched by millions, especially implanting the word "skank" in the language of younger generations of women. Patrice A. Oppliger wrote a book entitiled Girls Gone Skank: The Sexualization of Girls in American Culture, which raises questions regarding feminism and girls' emerging sexualities in modern day. [3]This book explores the idea of a "skank" in both preadolescent and adolescent girls.

Not done. There is an entry in Wiktionary for skank. If you feel that there is enough information for a page to be created for skank, you should simply do so by creating a new page. I should warn you though that most of your information is not suitable for an article because your references are simply to "example.com". Additionally, other articles in Wikipedia (or other Wikimedia projects, such as Wiktionary) are not reliable, third party sources. — Jonadin 04:48, 27 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

A misprint in the definition for guitar technique. Should be “muted” instead of “unmuted”. Ds380 (talk) 03:27, 15 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Done, thanks. You might be interested in improving Ska stroke, which lacks explanation of muting. Adrian J. Hunter(talkcontribs) 12:20, 15 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I am not a guitar specialist. The phrase was contradictory in itself. :) Ds380 (talk) 23:06, 20 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Skank usually refers to a promiscuous female but one that takes her sexual perversion acts to a low level having little or no regard for her hygiene or her sexual safety and health. Many Skank woman carry disease because of the addiction to sexual perversion is so great they have little regard for themselves or others in safe manners. They main focus in on their sexual addiction. It's not always about the act of sex to them but more the act of sexual perversion and just how low they can sink to satisfy that thirst.
