Article proposed for deletion

I stumbled on this article tonight (but I can't remember how, now that I think about it... I know nothing about polka music), and with a little googling I made an attempt to expand the article a bit. I see the article has been proposed for deletion. Maybe the following items aren't enough to keep it around, but in 1958 they had a vinyl LP issued by the famed RCA Victor record company, so they weren't entirely some unknown local act. A website said they were popular for a time in Texas, well outside their home stomping grounds of New Ulm, Minnesota. The band was created in the 1930s, yet a couple of "Greatest Hits" compilation CDs for them came out in the 90s and as recently as 2006, so somebody still thinks there's a market for their music.

There's apparently not a whole lot of historical background on the web about old acts such as these; it's not too hard to understand why since those who were around when a band like this was at it's most popular are probably dead by now, or if alive may have not be very inclined to create web pages. It's up to another generation of people dedicated to a genre's musical history to put historical content up on the web. Polka has limited appeal to begin with, except in certain geographic locations, so that probably is one strike against it as far as building a comprehensive historical online narrative about it... I hope they will keep it

I hope this won't be deleted The Six Fat Dutchmen were one of the most popular polka bands during the polka heyday - it would be sad if their information would be lost because someone felt polka music was not important. Jane

I think it's OK now. At the time someone flagged it, it was a one-sentence stub that didn't highlight the band's notability. Now that it's been expanded and referenced a bit, it should be safe. :-) - Itsfullofstars 20:58, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

Minnesota Music Hall of Fame

Someone removed the External Link to the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame. As the website has the Six Fat Dutchmen inducted into the Hall and has an extensive room to the group and polka I would think this would be a good link - anyone have other ideas? My edits

Well, until a couple of days ago I never heard of the Six Fat Dutchmen or Harold Loeffelmacher, and I personally don't have a taste for polka music either, but expanding this article and a couple of others related to the genre was an interesting experience. Picking up some knowledge in a subject one is otherwise unfamiliar is a good reason to be here on Wikipedia. I'm pretty sure I'm going to leave further expansion of this article to others, but I'll keep it in my watchlist. - Itsfullofstars 09:04, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

The Six Fat Dutchmen band was a fantastic polka band in it's day. I personally danced to their music in St. Paul Minnesota during the 1950's The style is a lost art unfortunately. I sincerly hope they do not remove this site as it has something to be remembered for everyone.
