Suspected copyright violation edit

I have been trying to find the EB1911 article that it is claimed is source for this article. I did a Goolge search on ["Richard Wynn" site:wikisource.org] and some other similar searches and I could not find it.

I noticed that the style of the sources looked as if they had come from another article, so I started to do internet searches on them.

In the history of this article they were added at 14:59, 30 November 2005 by user:Aetheling1125 (diff)

Several of the sources in that format them turned up article in "The National Library of Wales :: Dictionary of Welsh Biography", but it was inconclusive until I searched "The Welsh Review, v, 187-191" This matched:

WYNN family, of Gwydir, Caerns. Unfortunately the text in this article matches the Welsh Biography: Earwig's Copyvio Detector 42%

Usually I would give the editor the benefit of the doubt over copyright issues, but the edit back in 2005 looks like a deliberate attempt to hide where the text comes from as the sources and EB1911 were added simultaneously. If this is not the case then I invite Aetheling1125 to produce a link to an EB1911 article that covers this subject.

As the article in Dictionary of Welsh Biography is one covering several people it is quite possible that this source has been used inserted into several articles.

A search on "The Welsh Review, v, 187-191" turns up these articles with an identical line in each one:

  1. Sir John Wynn, 5th Baronet
passim E. Breeze, Kalendars of Gwynedd, passim; Cymm., xxxviii The Welsh Review, v, 187-191; Trans. Caern. Hist. Soc., 1939, 37-46; J. E. Griffith, Pedigrees
  2. Sir Owen Wynn, 3rd Baronet
passim E. Breeze, Kalendars of Gwynedd, passim; Cymm., xxxviii The Welsh Review, v, 187-191; Trans. Caern. Hist. Soc., 1939, 37-46; J. E. Griffith, Pedigrees
  3. Sir Richard Wynn, 2nd Baronet

  • Yep, this looks like a copyright violation and I've removed the text. The earliest versions do appear to be copied from this DNB article, prior to the insertion of the copyvio, so I've reverted to one of those. I'll have a look at the other articles tomorrow.
