photograph of motion picture filming edit

On commons File:SRR 3 Movie train at Keystone Sept 1964xRP - Flickr - drewj1946.jpg is a photo taken by Drew Jacksich in September 1964 that shows SRwy3 steaming along the rails with actors dressed as cowboys appearing in and around the cab and with a motion picture camera on a tripod above the cab roof between the cab and the load of wood in the tender. It might help to illustrate the use of SRwy3 in movies, but I note this article already has lots of photos (including a portrait of Clint Eastwood who appears to be nowhere near the steam locomotive). 69.115.42.244 (talk) 04:05, 28 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

I think that it is an excellent photo. Do you want to add it to the article? The photo of Clint Eastwood just shows an actor/director long associated with the locomotive and it is not claimed that he was near the locomotive when it was taken. Do you think it doesn't belong? Cullen328 Let's discuss it 04:56, 28 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
I think the 1964 photo would be helpful, but it may crowd the article. In the article text above the list sections the thumbnails all appear on the right, instead of a mix of left and right as recommended at WP:IMAGE#Location. For the list sections I think placing the images on the right is preferrable, since it will not interfere with the left justification of the list text. If an image were removed to make room I think the most appropriate one to remove would be the Eastwood portrait since his connection to the locomotive is well explained and referenced within the article text. 69.115.42.244 (talk) 13:18, 28 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Since leaving this comment I have edited the article and placed two of the images on the left side of the page (the default image size in the loco infobox template enlarged the first image quite a bit). I suspect there may now be room to add a photo without removing Eastwood's portrait. 69.115.42.244 (talk) 15:34, 28 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Why is the first 3 to 4 feet of the boiler a different shade of black? Is it a different type of metal?Stan Brewer (talk) 06:25, 11 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Sierra No. 3Sierra Railway No. 3 – Firstly, the article itself foremostly mentions it as Sierra Railway No. 3. Secondly, there are other railways beginning with the word Sierra. Thirdly, Sierra (as in Ford Sierra) is an automobile. - Relisted Armbrust, B.Ed. WrestleMania XXVIII The Undertaker 20–0 13:55, 10 July 2012 (UTC) 84.251.48.90 (talk) 07:22, 3 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

  • Comment: A Google search for simply Sierra No. 3 comes up with about 456,000,000 results, while Sierra Railway No. 3 comes up with about 12,400,000 results. Your reasons to move are not valid. Can you provide a reason/proof that Sierra Railway No. 3 is a more WP:COMMONNAME than Sierra No. 3? Seems as if both are used. Statυs (talk) 02:07, 4 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Preliminary thoughts on GA potential edit

  • The lead could be rewritten to better summarize the body; the smithsonian quote would ideally be repeated in the body in full form, and a shorter form given here.
  • Article appears complete enough in coverage, but I'm not train expert enough to say for sure.
  • "Two years later, Sierra No. 3 made her first known Hollywood film appearance, in a silent serial The Terror with Tom Mix." -- this should probably have an inline citation. Also, this seems to conflict a bit with the list below. You might present a more nuanced version here if sources conflict.
  • A GA reviewer may object to unreferenced paragraphs; it would avoid conflict to add more references before nominating.
  • How does it appear in the animated film Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron? As a "voice actor", or is it drawn in?
  • The grammar in some of the captions seems a bit awkward.

This seems close to GA status and I hope you'll consider nominating it soon. -- Khazar2 (talk) 12:23, 3 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

the page is missing the valve gear edit

for some reason a few articles associated with Wikiproject trains that are about steam locomotives are missing valve gear. Im not sure how this keeps happening. 73.250.53.193 (talk) 14:44, 16 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
