Talk:Sidmouth Railway

Confusion, repetition and overload edit

This article is trying to do too much. It is trying to describe all the railways that have ever existed in the Exmouth, Budleigh Salterton, Tipton and Sidmouth areas. And this is all under the generic banner "Sidmouth Railway", which is an ill-defined name. Yet we already have separate, cleanly defined articles about the some of these lines. In addition, the only railway ever inside Sidmouth itself seems to have been the 1830s ill-fated pier railway (and its tunnel, etc.).

I propose moving material about non-Sidmouth lines out of this article and into articles where such material more appropriately belongs. Any objections, or alternative suggestions? I propose starting this in the first few days of January.

As a subsidiary question, did that short-lived 1830s pier-railway ever have a formal name?

(Note: I am not, and never have been, a railway person at all. But we often in and around Sidmouth so have a liking for the area.)

In the absence of any raised issues, I have made a start, separating out the Sidmouth Harbour Railway into its own article. Feline Hymnic (talk) 11:41, 1 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
And I have moved the "Budleigh Salterton Railway" material into that (pre-existing) article. Feline Hymnic (talk) 17:39, 1 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
And I have moved the "Exmouth and Salterton" material from here (which is unconnected to Sidmouth or its branch line) to the existing "Avocet Line" (which directly connects at Exmouth). Perhaps it should be a separate article. But discuss that over there, not here. Feline Hymnic (talk) 21:38, 1 January 2019 (UTC)Reply
