Proposed merge with Shirazi wine edit

The same theme  Diako «  Talk » 08:44, 29 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hello

I am against merging. Hereby I warn wikipedia of piracy trying to use Shiraz for Syrah! which is completely false, Shiraz is not Syrah. They are different. Shiraz wine is wine from Shiraz or named after Shiraz, the capital city of ancient Persia and hometown of 1000-1100s wine lover poet Hafez. The i after Shirazi! should be removed if it is proposed to be merged with this article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 115.70.149.181 (talk) 08:54, 29 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Neither of the articles in question were about Syrah; both were about the Iranian Shiraz. I've merged the articles; it's pretty clear they're the same. Writ Keeper  15:08, 29 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for merge. I think it is all right now. none of the articles is about syrah but Shiraz wine was being redirected to Syrah and nobody was complaining about it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 115.70.149.181 (talk) 21:51, 29 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
This article should not have been merged with the much better written Shirazi wine article, since it now is a mix between that article and the article about the Syrah grape variety (also known as Shiraz in some parts of the world), and in a very bad shape. Wikipedia would be much better off if that article is restored, and this article deleted, i.e., made into a redirect to Syrah. Tomas e (talk) 22:47, 10 September 2017 (UTC)Reply
Actually, Tomas e, the merge had nothing to do with Syrah or the problems you now see in the article; both pre-merge articles were explicit about not including information about Syrah since it would be off-topic. The information about Syrah was added in this edit ten days ago, two days after the merge. Writ Keeper  17:15, 11 September 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hello! I agree with you and think that this article should be translated into other languages as well. Like German and French! Hastikhe (talk) 09:40, 10 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Contested deletion edit

This article should not be speedy deleted as being recently created, having no relevant page history and duplicating an existing English Wikipedia topic, because... (your reason here) --115.70.149.181 (talk) 09:53, 29 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

the Shirazi wine should be merged in this article instead

This is a restoration of a copyright violation. If the issue is a misnaming consider a move instead.PRehse (talk) 09:55, 29 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
Agree to merge and move, provided that name "Shiraz wine" is used. also this article has some useful info which does not exist in the other one. ( mentioning Jewish society in Shiraz and The translation for Hafez poem)115.70.149.181 (talk) 09:53, 29 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
You're right about the Title. Shirazi wine is a wrong title and it should be moved to Shiraz wine. If you want to add more information, you should add it to the article Shirazi wine, which will be moved to Shiraz wine. Diako «  Talk » 12:43, 29 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

(your reason here) --115.70.149.181 (talk) 11:48, 29 August 2017 (UTC) The article is not created recently. there is quite a few years of history for this page. There can be a proposed merge but the other page (Shirazi wine) should be merged into this one.Reply

Historical status of wine edit

The article discusses the limitations on production of wine in the current Islamic Republic and the fact that there were many wineries under the Shah. What about previous times? Iran has been a Muslim country for centuries, and so presumably subject to the prohibition of alcohol. It would be interesting to know why wine was apparently permitted under the Safavids etc. Can anyone add information about the Islamic period prior to the Pahlavi dynasty?Bill (talk) 07:19, 19 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Sources 6 and 7 edit

Hi there,

clicked on sources 6 and 7 out of curiosity. Source 6 leads to a page with no particular relevance to the information it's cited for, and source 7 leads to a 404 error.

Not a big Wiki editor, so not sure what the proper procedure is here. I'm guessing remove the sources and put a [citation needed] ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.166.102.12 (talk) 22:58, 5 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
