So yeah if anybody actually ever looks at this, you've probably noticed that I just did a fairly large edit here... Some of the information that was here was moved over to my nice shiny new article on The district, some of it stayed, and some of it just seemed irrelevant or unimportant and thus was completely ditched. But yeah if anybody feels like expanding this article that would be excellent. In the article on the district I put in links for new articles on high school east and high school west, but thinking about it some more it should probably only link to subsections of this article on the east and west buildings... So yeah I guess those two sections along with a brief introduction and probably at least a little bit about the history of the school and maybe a list of past principals would be a great place to start for this article... I just need to have some more time to get around to working on it so I can get some of this stuff done. I doubt anybody else is actually reading this so I guess it will just be me talking to myself. Woohoo!

Meaning of Shenendehowa

Shenendehowa is a great name. Including its meaning in the article would be a great way to make it more interesting. LizardWizard 01:37, August 21, 2005 (UTC)

If you ever read this again, I would suggest that you find a way to put it into the article on Shenendehowa Central School District. It means Great Plains, and I might get around to putting it in at some point, I just really don't think it belongs in this article, as it is the district's name, not just the name of the high school. Before you say Shenendehowa means Great Plain perhaps you should educate yourself first because even though you try topresent yourself as an expert you do not have a clue. Title

This article talks too much about the district as a whole and not enough about the high school in particular. Thus I would reccomend merging this article with the article on Shenendehowa Central School District and either redirecting this page there, or writing a new article about the high school. Little Update: I've started working on a more comprehensive article that uses some of the information from this one, and I'll probably end up putting that up under Shenendehowa Central School District and then I'll try to make a better article for this page that is specifically about the high school, and then I might work on articles for the other schools in the district as well... Ummm

There was a amazing food fight the last day of school this year at the West building, so I don't know why that was taken out. And don't tell me it's not important enough to be on the page, because that was epic.

Bias? Accurate information?

I live in a city nearby Shenendehowa, and I have never heard of pipe bombs exploding in the school. This may be true, but the sources are not specific. Also, the article seems biased against the school. I don't know enough about the school to correct it, but there seem to be problems with the article. Wolps 20:54, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

I agree, I have never heard of pipe bombs either, wouldn't that be on the news like colombine. The article is inherently biased and is not NPOV. The shotgun inccident is credible involving a mentally unstable youth who recently was released from the court mandated mental hospital, he was tackled by a state policeman Steven A. Well teens do have syphilis, you can't be denial about it. If it was your kid, i'm sorry but thats not right and aparently something is wrong. No matter what school, the child is in Shen District and others have the right to know about it. (UTC)

there were several bomb threats in the middle schools and some knifes were brought in but none were used. There were also swatitzkas writtem on bathroom walls.

Shen is a very large school district with over 700 students per class. With all those students is a very safe place even before all the cameras and the locked doors and buzzers. It's more like a prison now, thanks to all the other stupid kids with parents that have no clue how to parent. You want your kids to be safe be a parent know what your kid is doing. Shen use to be like a mini collage it prepared kids for the real world. Gave them freedom of choice. Respect Day was one of my favorite days. It brought the whole HS together for a day with Art, Musice, Poetry, and other student talents. As far as Hall monitors go if you didn't lie or try to pull on over on them they were pretty good about giving you a warning. Food fights I've only witnessed one but then they put in the first camera in the Caf. Yes we have fights I'm sure if kids could fight more with out harsh punishments they wouldnt bring guns/knive/other to school. The food there I hear isn't the best. They use to order out pizza $1.50 per slice a bit pricey for dominos but it was worth it as a student. Oh and the Otis Spunkmyer cookies hot and gooy were to die for. There breakfast selection good with cinnamon buns shenwiches( egg sandwich with your choice of Ham Bacon or Sausage). Also kids who have trouble keeping up with class can easily make arrangements with teachers durning free periods or after school to get their grades up, but it's totally up to the student like I said it holds students accountable like a collage. Okay...

I think this is totally neutral. I actually go to Shen and so far, everything I've read is true. It's not even like they're saying "OMGZ SHEN IS SUCH A DUMP IT SHOULD BE TORN DOWN." Honestly, I think it's pretty neutral. Just because it's not exactly cheery topics doesn't mean it's negative against the school! That's like not allowing an entry on Germany because there's a mention of Hitler.

I think that maybe the fact that so many of the allegations are unrefereced is what made me concerned about the POV status of the article. As well as being true, thhe information needs to be Verifiable. So I think that references for things like:

• numerous sexual encounters and pregnancies were reported to have occurred
• the sale and abuse of illegal drugs (such as marijuana and LSD) ran rampant throughout the junior and senior high schools.
• Administration and faculty were criticized when they responded to the sale of illegal drugs by increasing and tightening hallway monitoring
• In 1989, an emotionally troubled student brandished a shotgun in the halls and cafeteria of the school.
• In 1990, two students were arrested after they severely beat and hospitalized a varsity athlete.
• In 1991, principal Ed Curran was arrested in Clifton Park for driving while intoxicated and his wife was cited for assaulting an officer.
• In 1992, pipe bombs were set off in several second floor hallway lockers.
• In 1993, a pornographic film was displayed on the cafeteria television displays.
• In 1994, a former student burglarized the school at night, stealing electronic equipment and musical instruments.
• In 2005, a knife was brought to school by a student, but not used.

But it IS verifiable! I go there! I've seen this stuff happen! Just because it's not written down anywhere that the public can acess, doesn't mean it's not true!

I've taken out the material that remains unverified. For it to be re-included, it needs be verified by citations from reliable and reputable sources. This isn't terribly important, but

I noticed that it said the TVs weren't used on 9/11, and they definitley were. I don't know about the high schools because I didn't go there at the time, but they were used and had news on all day in the middle schools. I was in the HS when that happen and yup they showed it. They even showed the news about Columbine. After they turned Koda into HS West they never turned the TVs on anymore. Not sure now I graduated in 2001 Amy 99xx 14:08, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

Keeping Neutral

Please keep in mind when editing Wikipedia, that you must remain neutral, that your information must be cited, and that your information must be encyclopedic. Discussing "top schools" or "common schools" as well as such subjective word like "highly qualified" would counter the spirit of Wikipedia. If there is information that makes SHS notable, please add it, but do so in a neutral manner. See WP:NPOV.

Question about neutral: is the "such schools" neutral?

AP class grade

In shenet grapevine, it states that collegeboard AP scores are not considered when teachers give students grades in school transcripts. How can that be a policy? We need consider collegeboard AP scores because it decides how much students learned in the AP classes. If not considered in giving grades, at least should be in the weight that calculates the students rank.Turbulence1996 (talk) 18:55, 22 July 2009 (UTC)

Colleges attended

Shen high school has 700 to 800 students graduating each year and many assume it a decent school. Suprisingly, for several years there were nobody attending schools like Harvard, Yale, Princeton, mit. Are the students stupid here? Maybe not. This high school had decent number of National Merit Scholars. The high school ranking of graduates is to blame for this result. Last year, first-ranked graduate attended a state university only. In more than half schools in this country, there are no ranking among graduates. In this way, more super-smart students with high IQ can be qualified for schools like Harvard/Yale. In shenendehowa high, it is only top 1% ranked graduates are qualifed for harvard, but they all get not so great SAT. If no ranking in graduates, 10-20% graduates can compete for ivy league. The current ranking is also very subjective: 0.02/100 seperates many students. This is bad for creative students: Harvard will not accept a student with SAT 2400 but ranked 31th from this school (there are 30 students better in the school?). The result: first-ranked students in Shen always attend state universities. FYI, More than 55% public high schools do not rank their graduates: Just see collegeboard data or college admission office data to find this fact. BTW, Guilderland high, a smaller high school (about 400 graduates) nearby, has 2 or more graduates to Harvad and Yale. As a result, Guilderland realty booms. Local schools such as Shaker, Bethlehem also do not rank students. And Shaker has students attending harvard last year. If students were ranked (like shen) in shaker... 72.231.184.199 (talk)

Coordinates are way off

An anonymous IP added them four and a half years ago; since then no one has bothered to check them. I have to go to a meeting here next Monday, so I figured I'd use the good ol' trusty online encyclopedia I edit to find out how to get there.

The coordinates didn't look right; everything in the Albany area is north of the 42nd parallel. And indeed I find the coordinates lead to somewhere in Dutchess County. It looks like someone got confused adding them.

Does anyone have the real ones? It's probably too late to find out how this happened now. I suppose if no one has done this by Monday, I'll put the right ones in. Daniel Case (talk) 05:51, 8 March 2017 (UTC)
