Should be changed to:

Shashi Gupta (born 3 April 1964 in Delhi, India) is a former Indian Test and One Day International cricketer and former National Selector of the Indian Women's Cricket Team at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). She has played a total of 13 Tests and 20 ODIs from 1984-93 including the Women’s Cricket World Cup in 1993.[1] She was the Chairperson of the Senior Women's Selection Committee at Delhi Development Cricket Association (DDCA) from 2010-2011.[2] She was also the captain of Punjab Women’s Cricket Team & Vice-Captain of Indian Railways Women’s Cricket team in 1985. She currently serves as an Advisor on the Cricket Advisory Committee to the Cricket Association of Uttarakhand (CAU) in India.

In 2017 Shashi was awarded the prestigious honourary life membership of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) in recognition of her contribution to Women’s Cricket.[3] [4]

Career

Shashi was selected to play for the State level team in Punjab between 1982-1985 and was the Captain of the team for a year during her tenure. [5] She also played for Indian Railways Women’s Cricket team and served as Vice-Captain of the team in 1985.[6]

She was then selected to play for Indian National Women’s cricket team while still in college in 1984. She played for the Indian Women’s cricket team from 1985-1993. During her tenure she represented the country in 1 Women’s Cricket World Cup, played 13 Test matches and 20 One Day Internationals (ODIs).[7] The Indian Women’s Cricket team stood 4th during the World Cup she played in 1993.[8]

Shashi worked for the Northern Railways of India between 1990 - 2020 and retired as a Superintendent in 2020.

Shashi started working with the Delhi Development Cricket Association (DDCA) in 2007. She was the Chairperson of the Senior Women's Selection Committee at DDCA from 2010-2011.[9] During her tenure as the Chairperson, the Delhi Women’s Cricket team won the Ranji championship and was T-20 runners-up.

Shashi served as a member of the Women's Working Committee at the Board of Cricket Control of India (BCCI) since 2015 and the National Selector for India Northern States at BCCI Women’s Cricket Selection Committee from 2016 to January 2020.[10] The women’s team selected by her and other National Selectors stood runners up in the T-20 World Cup in 2020 and in ODIs in 2017.[11]

She serves as an Advisor on the Cricket Advisory Committee to the Cricket Association of Uttarakhand (CAU) in India from 2022.

Records

  1. Has scored 10th most runs by an Indian woman cricket player in Test matches [12]
  2. Gupta is only one of three Indian women who has managed the series double of 100 runs and 10 wickets. She scored 138 runs and took 10 wickets against New Zealand in 1985.[13]
  3. Made a world record in last wicket partnership with Sharmila Chakarwarti with 78 runs In 2nd test match India v/s Australia in Lucknow in 1984 [14]
  4. Received Best all-rounder award In 2nd test match India v/s Australia in Lucknow in 1984 [15]
  5. Made a world record (at the time) for taking wicket on very first ball of the match India v/s New Zealand in Indore in 1985 [16]
  6. Best All-rounder award in one day match India v/s New Zealand in Indore in 1985 [17]
  7. Scored centuries in 4 consecutive national championships in the Ranji tournament final matches and one in semi-final match between 1985-1993

  • Why it should be changed:

Current information is both inaccurate and incomplete to a high degree. Shashi Gupta has completed her tenure as National Women's Cricket Selector of India at BCCI, she is no longer working in that position. Also, currently there is no information on details of her career. I am positing edit requests to this information acting on behalf of Shashi Gupta who wants to make updates to her own biography of a living person.

@GuptaShambhavi: You have a few unsourced paragraphs, namely in the personal life section and early career. Can you provide sources for them please? Thanks. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 12:54, 23 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi @ARandomName123 this information on Shashi Gupta's personal life and early career such as the name of her parents & University she studied in was never digitized. As you can imagine, this is a female cricket player that player in late 1980s and early 1990s when there was lack of digital media specially focused on women in sports in India. In the recent years, more information is getting digitized from this time so I've added sources for all other information.
I understand your reservation about the personal life and early career section not having sources so I've removed these sections for now. Let me know if you have any other concerns or suggestions. If you could help me publish the updates on the page, that'll be very helpful. GuptaShambhavi (talk) 05:25, 24 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
