"Sophie" may be Phillipe's daughter. If you recall in Season 1, when Shannon was translating the song lyrics, she remembered that the daughter of the man she lived with used to watch a certain cartoon show over and over, and the lyrics were the theme song of that show. --Russ Blau (talk) 16:16, 25 September 2005 (UTC)

Shannon

In Irish/Galige, Shannon means old one, and is feminine. It is the name of the main river in Ireland, which is the longest in the British Isles. All Irish rivers seem to have feminine names, and in many cases are known to have being worshiped as water deitys. Fergananim 14:45, 28 September 2005 (UTC)

Shannon isn't the only one to see visions of Walt, Sayid does also and admits this to Kate while they are sitting at Shannon's grave. I can't log right now so would someone plese correct this on the main Shannon page? Much thanks!

Shannon's age. At the time of her father's death, it's said she's 18 ("Abandoned"), and Desmond says that same night ( "Man of Science Man of Faith" flashback, where Jack first met Sarah and Shannon's father died) was about 3 years ago. She clearly states in season 1 "Name; Shannon Rutherford, Age: 20". Yet the wiki entry says she was nineteen at the time of her father's death, which is a serious error, especially factoring the character's current age on the island, and the time that's passed since then. While it's possible Desmond was counting the actual years (example; 2002, '03, '04) as the three years (actually making it two full years), or that Shannon at the time of the crash was not yet 21, but turning it, it STILL wouldn't make her 19 at the time of her father's death. Thanks.

Mr. Rutherford

According to the episode transcripts at Lost-TV.com, the only mentions of Shannon's father in the episode "Hearts and Minds" are as follows:

• Boone (in police station): "She was married. She's not married anymore, and that has nothing to do with this. [Malcolm looks up at that statement, Boone looks flustered.] Rutherford is her father's name. Our parents got married when I was 10, she was 8."
• Bryan (at his apartment): "She told me your mum screwed Shannon over after her daddy died, kept all her father's money for herself. Sweet mum you got there."

At no point in the transcript is there a mention of Shannon's father dying in a car accident. While I agree that it is very likely that the Mr. Rutherford dying in Jack's hospital is indeed Shannon's father, since Lost doesn't give out information like that without a purpose, I also think it could be Shannon's grandfather, uncle, what have you... or not a relative of Shannon at all. In other words, the show itself has not established that this Mr. Rutherford is indeed Shannon's father, and as such, it is theory that does not belong on these pages. That's what sites like The Fuselage are for. Additionally, posting false information in an attempt to make the theory seem more factual is unacceptable. Baryonyx 18:42, 28 September 2005 (UTC)

I have removed this speculation a second time, but will refrain from doing so a 3rd time in 24 hours to avoid an edit war. I have contacted the user who replaced it concerning Wikipedia policy on speculation, no personal attacks, and NPoV. Baryonyx 08:58, 10 November 2005 (UTC)

Shannon was wounded, but it is far from certain that she died or that Ana-Lucia was the culprit. LOST abounds in cliff-hangers. Keep Shannon as "alive, but wounded" on this page until the situation is clarified. It may very well be that The Others attacked Shannon and Ana-Lucia shot The Other. To state anything as true would be speculation, so please let the page reflect this uncertainty.

Sources in production, as well as a comment from Dominic Monaghan, appear to confirm her death. However, it does seem best to stick with on-screen facts; let's confirm with what's in the show, I think. Radagast 03:51, 13 November 2005 (UTC)

Stabbing versus shooting

An anonymous person seems intent to inject his pet theory that Shannon was stabbed by John Locke, rather than shot by Ana-Lucia. While it may very well turn out that she was not shot, that's not what we, as viewers, have so far been presented in the episode. As such, any claim that Shannon was stabbed by an unknown assailant is Original Research and not to be included in the article. When the next episode comes around and Shannon's fate is revealed, we will know more fully who/what was responsible. Until then, please stop trying to formulate alternatives to what the show itself wants us to see. Save the theories for fan sites. LOL, stabbed by Locke? How the hell does that make any sense? There was a gunshot, and then Shannon collapsed, bleeding from a gunshot wound...Locke did not appear, nor was her wound inflicted by a knife...this is one of the most hilarious theories I've ever heard!

Shannon's Death

Wednesday's Ask Ausiello over at TV Guide contained an interview with Damon Lindelof and Carleton Cuse, and considering J.J. Abrams pre-occupation with MI3 ATM, you can't get a higher source than them. Here's what they had to say (among other things):

Did it bug you that Maggie Grace's people leaked that tidbit about her possibly joining the cast of X-Men 3 over the summer? It was a pretty major tip-off that she might be leaving the show.

• Carlton: There's no incentive for them to preserve the creative sanctity of Lost. You have an agency full of people whose job it is to get Maggie Grace other work. And how could we begrudge her that? We can't prevent her from going out and earning a livelihood, you know?

There's the perception that Maggie had to turn down X-Men 3 because of Lost.

• Carlton: I don't think that was the circumstance. We would have been accommodating had she been offered that job.
• Damon: Carlton and I would have bent over backwards to see if there was a way to make it work.

Why was Shannon marked for death?

• Damon: It was by no means a result of Maggie's abilities as an actress, which, we felt were gaining ground every time we saw her on the screen. But Shannon is a 22- or 23-year-old character, and the flashback stories and limitations in terms of her life experience…. The younger the character is on the show, the more limited you are in terms of stories you can tell. So, before we started running Shannon into the ground and doing the same stories over and over again, it felt like it was a very natural time to kill [her] off. And the idea that was appealing to us, and certainly to Maggie, was that we would finally show Shannon in this different light. Make her incredibly sympathetic and then she would die.

Will Shannon be back, like, say, in one of Jack's flashbacks?

• Carlton: It's always possible she could pop up in someone's backstory. But she is definitely dead. When a character dies on the island, they stay dead.

Can you confirm that Shannon was, in fact, shot? Fans have been speculating that she looked like she had a stab wound.

• Carlton: She was shot.
• Damon: People are getting a little too…

They're reaching a little too much?

• Carlton: They totally are. And she did not have a Dharma Initiative stamp on her.

I'd say this is pretty clear confirmation that it's Shannon who's gone. Now... should it be updated onto the page? No, since she's still not officially dead on the show, but I just want this here so we can shut down all the messiness on this page. Baryonyx 05:26, 17 November 2005 (UTC)

Hearts and Minds is not also a Boone centric episode but also a Shannon's one

This is also a Shannon centric episode, no doubt about it, since without this episode we wouldn't even know they we're brothers, they slept together, and what shannon did to get money from boone's mother.

I think it hasn't been counted as that because the flashbacks in that episode are shown from Boone's point of view rather than Shannon's.

Discussion of whether the flashback character is just Boone or him and Shannon at Talk:Characters_of_Lost#Flashback_characters. Please discuss there instead of revert warring and respect the consensus of that discussion. --Milo H Minderbinder 20:26, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

i dont get how anyone can say exodus part 1 was a shannon centric episode and hearts and minds not. In hearts and minds the episode is about her and Boone. but exodus had a 1 minute flashback of her

Just to confirm a fact...Shannon was 18 when her father died, but the page says 19. This is confirmed as in Season 2 Episode 6, while at her father's wake, she says her age to Boone.
