Rain has nothing to do with clouds. edit
Rain happens when humidity reaches saturation and water is condensed from vapor. If the air has any fine particulate matter in it a cloud will form and that most likely will happen prior to saturation and rain. When there is no particulate matter in the air, there will be no clouds even while raining. Satellites detect cloudless rain all the time and this occurrence should increase over time as the plankton (believed to be the source of the fine particulate matter) declines and goes away.
