Ethnicity in lede and nationality. edit

I removed ethnicity from the lede. Also the category Irish Boxers should not be added without a citation to show he has citizenship. Having both parents born there would not be suffienct. Can you provide a reliable source? Thank you, --Malerooster (talk) 21:58, 6 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

An edit posted this link. If he does have Irish citizenship, then the lede should read Irish-American not of Irish descent. I am finished here however and will not revert. You could have made the case that his Irish ethnicity is part of his notability, that has been done before with other fighters. --Malerooster (talk) 22:20, 6 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
RiverCityBoys links only prove his parents are Irish. So by stating "of Irish parentage" (which is not ethnicity exactly) or where his parents is from as a nod to his Irish identity as far as I am concerned is alright as it can be sourced. Heritage however is not sourced, just assumed. Mabuska (talk) 19:14, 8 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
The guy is of Irish descent, which really is the same as ethnicity. If your Parents are from Poland, you have Polish ethnicity. The "problem" is that per WP:OPENPARA, ethnicity is not included in the lede, especially the first sentence, UNLESS its the reason for the person's notability. The IP could, and should if he is smart about it, make the case that Monaghan's notability is tried to his Irish ethnicity, and it might well be. In that case, then it would be ok to note in the lead. Thoughts? --Malerooster (talk) 19:29, 8 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
I tried to get River City Boy to engage on the talk page, and further explained my edit which is now possibly good enough to settle this? Mabuska (talk) 20:59, 8 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
Its fine to mention that his parents are Irish. Its fine to mention that he is of Irish descent or ethnicity, take your pick. Just NOT in the first sentence, that's all. --Malerooster (talk) 22:34, 8 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

I agree, however stating where his parents are from doesn't equate to stating that he is Irish or of Irish descent so in technicality there is no violation anymore? Mabuska (talk) 23:09, 8 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
