Temple District

I thought since it was specific to this temple at least the part about the districts, it could go there. It is interesting to me (from living in the Caribbean too) that the only temple en the Caribbean doesn't cover the whole of the Caribbean. Feel free to edit it. The concept of temple districts should probably be covered elsewhere, but I think the boundaries of this temple's district are better described here, especially given the fact that some people from the Caribbean geographic region technically belong to other temple districts. I don't think the existing two sentence what-a-district-is is excessive for this article. – jaksmata 01:29, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

My first thought is that this is not unique situation to the Caribbean geographical region. There are other geographical regions that are not assigned to either the closest temple nor to the temple within the political or geopolitical boundaries (the same goes for mission boundaries and welfare regions). I'm ok with including a description here that the temple district does not include all of the Caribbean.

My second concern is that it might be difficult to source the temple regions as they change and I don't know of a consistent reliable source for the information (especially which countries/islands are in which temple district). That is why I was thinking that a general description of districts would be appropriate in the Temple (LDS Church) article.

Finally, the main purpose temple districts serve is to identify which stakes are given temple assignments or who are expected to provide volunteer (part-time) temple workers. Members are able to go to whatever temple is best for them individually, so I'm not sure what the purpose is in including a statement which basically says, "all these people aren't in the temple district, they are in other districts, but it doesn't matter because members can go to whatever temple they want." My question would be so why exactly are their temple districts and do they mean anything? --Trödel 03:04, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

Temple services

Thanks to Mkpaquette for the various efforts on temples in Central America. I certainly see the point of what is trying to be added to the article about services/languages at Santo Domingo Dominican Republic Temple, though I still don't think it has a place in a wp article. My natural inclination would be to remove it again, but opted instead to note it hear and provide opportunity for discussion. A wp article doesn't typically seem to be the place to ensure people know to reserve space or call ahead for a particular service need. ChristensenMJ (talk) 01:02, 10 June 2015 (UTC)

Before visiting this temple, I looked for information about what services would be available there (they vary from temple to temple). LDS.org said "Cafeteria vending", but what did that mean? It also said "Guest housing available", but how could I avail myself of it? Also, would they be equipped to deal with me, a non-Spanish-speaker? I could not find answers to these questions anywhere, including on Wikipedia. I now have the answers. I think that they are informative, and they'll certainly be useful to anyone reading this article with the intention of visiting this temple. You're right about a Wikipedia article not being the best place to ensure that people know to reserve space or call ahead. No doubt, these answers should be available elsewhere, but they're not. Thanks for the response. What I am noting is that standard wp practice is to try and provide an encyclopedia-like, fact-based article or information that doesn't end up reading like an advertisement, marketing piece or something like unto it. Simply including something that doesn't appear to exist someplace else typically does not justify inclusion in the wp article. This is not a informational webpage.
