William Watson? edit

At History of Coventry#Clocks and watches it says "William Watson, who was sheriff of Coventry in 1682, became famous for making an ingenious astronomical clock", so it would be nice to have this apparent contradiction clarified.. SamuelTheGhost (talk) 14:23, 4 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

interesting, it definately says Samuel watson on the clock dial for the astronomical clock, and the herbert museum page is pretty clear on 'samuel' being sherriff, perhaps william is his middle name?? I'll see if I can dig anything out. EdwardLane (talk) 15:26, 4 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

here you can find an image of the dial

no source for the name william I can find, name corrected in the article you mention above. EdwardLane (talk) 16:56, 4 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Pulse watch info edit

there is plenty of info heresome of it applies to Samuel Watson - seems to give a date of birth 1635, and it being in coventry.

this notes him as a politician

national archives have him as bailiff and sherriff on 18 October 1686

there appears to be a book with a chunk about him here including wife plus children etc.

also of note only very flimsy evidence that he may have been self styled "mathematian in ordinary to charles II" EdwardLane (talk) 17:32, 4 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

looks like the wordpress site for the herbert museum got taken down, but this link looks to be relevant EdwardLane (talk) 13:02, 5 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
