Controversial move without talk edit

This article was recently moved without discussion, by retitling it to 'Maison Saint-Cyr', under the rather arbitrary explanation that 'nobody calls it Saint-Cyr House'. I find this action quite concerning, especially from a Wikipedia administrator. In fact, 'Saint-Cyr House' is the official English name used by the Brussels Tourist Agency (visit.brussels), the Brussels Heritage Days (patrimoine.brussels), the Brussels architects that renovated the building (MA² - Metzger et Associés Architecture), and the list goes on. Besides, this French name might go against the Brussels naming convention established back in 2007 and is anyway missing a broader call for discussion. As the article's original writer, I am thus reverting it to its previous title pending such an agreement. Jason Lagos (talk) 22:42, 23 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

For what it is worth, I would support a move to "Maison Saint-Cyr". I do not think that the translations you cite are enough to evidence that the translation has acquired the status of a genuine common name in English language sources which is the standard in WP:UE. —Brigade Piron (talk) 18:52, 7 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi Brigade Piron, thank you for your comment, but I must politely disagree. You are well aware of the long-established Brussels naming conventions that I mentioned above where it was agreed that when an English common name exists, that name should be the preferred one on the English Wikipedia. If you disagree with those conventions, you are free to open a discussion for their overhaul on their appropriate talk page. Additionally, if most or all official bodies in Brussels use a specific English name, because that is what the institution wants to be known as, I do not see how this is contradictory to WP:UE. In any case, arbitrarily renaming an article and removing one of two native names (i.e. the Dutch one) from the infobox, as you did in the article about the Autrique House, is not the correct approach. For that reason, I will reverse your change there. Once the move has been reversed, you are again free to open a WP:RM discussion to gain consensus for the change.
