I hate you classification

"I Hate U" is a promotional single. It was released as a single downloadable track on digital retailers and streaming services with its own cover. It doesn't have a radio or physical release which makes it not a full single, but it's still a promotional single. What is the rationale for keeping it in the "other charted songs" section when it got its own individual release? Here are sources that call it a single: https://hiphopdx.com/news/id.66283/title.sza-dusts-off-random-soundcloud-leaks-gives-i-hate-you-single-an-official-release#signup https://pitchfork.com/news/sza-officially-releases-new-single-i-hate-u-listen/ https://www.vulture.com/2021/12/sza-new-single-i-hate-u-officially-released.html Gagaluv1 (talk) 20:07, 12 December 2021 (UTC)

Hi Gagaluv1, as I have said in my edit summaries, the artist herself has not called it a single, or promotional single. I agree with you that it is not a proper single. However, if it is a promo single as you say, what was it released in promotion of? We can't just go by what you deem it to be. Regardless, any source can (erroneously) call a song something it's not; this is explained at WP:SINGLE?, which I know is not a guideline or policy, but it explains the concept well. SZA herself has said it is not a single, and that she released it because it recieved a good response from fans through its SoundCloud release. I feel until we have a reliable source from SZA or her label stating otherwise, then it should stay as it is. AshMusique (talk) 20:48, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
SZA herself literally called said it is now an official single on Twitter. Explain to me why "The Anonymous Ones", a song that wasn't released individually on all streaming services and doesn't have an article and doesn't chart is still a single but I Hat U isn't? It's already one of her biggest hits of course it's a single.Gagaluv1 (talk) 21:30, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
Gagaluv1, where is the source of her saying so, where is the tweet? The tweet/post (which I added) in the article has her saying it's not a single, but that fans are treating it as one (because of its streaming numbers). I, respectfully, do not care about "The Anonymous Ones", as I was not the editor who added it and I don't have an answer for it, but it seems that song was released prior to the soundtrack it's included on, I'm not sure. Anyhow, that is not of relevance here, it's WP:OTHERSTUFF. Also, songs charting and or having articles does not automatically qualify them as singles, that is not how it works. Many songs become hits prior to being released as actual singles. Again, please stop changing the status of "I Hate U" until there is consensus here to change it, it's getting tiring having to go back and forth with you, and I've being nice enough about it - any further instances of you restoring it will be considered disruptive. I think I've made my points clear. AshMusique (talk) 21:47, 13 December 2021 (UTC)

Almost all the sources on the I Hate U song page describe it as a single, and the song has been serviced to radios in the US and thus meets WP:SINGLE? criteria. I really don't see why there’s still arguments about the song’s clear single status. Dangerousalex (talk) 13:14, 23 December 2021 (UTC)

AshMusique I oppose your revert - and when I agree on the fact that SZA herself said it's not a single, doesn't mean it was released independently to stream/download placing it to promotional single status per WP:SINGLE?. Plus, with reverting my edit, you pushed down "Consideration" back to "Other charted songs" section, which is kinda ironic single afromentioned essay placed it as a promotional single example. infsai (talkie? Infsai, I'm sorry that I removed "Consideration" from the Promo singles table, that was just the easiest way to restore "I Hate U" back into Other charted songs; I only realized after I performed the edit that I moved "Consideration" too. I've restored it now. Again, sorry about that, didn't mean to diminish your efforts, I don't disagree about that. But after all the points that have been made and after all those who supported "I Hate U" being a single, I will leave it as such - in fact, I too am now convinced that it is an actual single. I'm still not sure about it being a promotion single, but do agree on it being a standalone single, currently at least. AshMusique (talk) 20:46, 5 January 2022 (UTC)
AshMusique Yes, now (finally) "I Hate U" can be classified as a single, hence it was released to Urban AC radio in the US. Anyway, when I'll gather a proper laptop I'll also update charts featured in Promo singles section to match where "Consideration" also charted. ^^ infsai (talkie? UwU) 12:57, 6 January 2022 (UTC)
