Derogatis felt the impact of the confrontation through a backlash against his work and heavy criticism of his methodology and style.

Improvements / to-do list

I'm planning to do a lot of work on this article over the next couple of days. Here's everything I can think of that needs to be done:

1. Biography. Replace Musical career and personal life with a Biography section. For example, see Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen.
2. Cleanup. Merge "Working with..." and Trivia sections into Biography.
3. Elizabethtown. There is only one paragraph about this. It's not worth having a separate section heading for it -- why is Elizabethtown more notable than any of the other TV shows/movies to feature Ryan's work?
4. Cardinal Radio. As above, the 11 "albums" uploaded to his web site aren't all that notable. High quantity, low quality. Not criticising his work, but we don't need a separate section heading for this.
5. Songs Featured in Television and Film. For someone as prolific as Ryan Adams, it's not notable that his work is used all over the place. This list of TV shows and movies featuring his songs isn't all that useful. Suggest removing it.
6. Early life. There is no information in the main article about Ryan's life before 1994. A couple of paragraphs about the first twenty years of his life would be useful.
7. References. The article uses two different styles for citing sources; I suggest changing to use only ref tags. We also need to fix all the unsourced statements -- if it can't be verified it should be removed.
8. Rewrite lead. Make sure that this conforms to WP:LEAD.
9. General copyediting.

In merging the trivia section, I've removed a lot of stuff which I don't think is notable enough to be included in an encyclopedia. In particular I'd like to bring attention to the "Adams has a reputation for his unstable temperament." bit -- I don't think anything listed there is all that important, though perhaps I'm not being completely objective about that. If others feel those incidents should be mentioned, they should be added to the main biography in the appropriate places. Adam McMaster 23:24, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

I've done most of what I want to do, though there's still some gaps in the bio I'm planning on filling. I really want to replace the photo in the infobox, 'cause the one that's there isn't very clear. Yes that did happen. It was mentioned in the Trivia section before I removed it -- I'm not sure if him throwing the guy out is important enough to be mentioned by itself, but it could be added to the bio with some info about his mother's illness at the time (since that was a contributing factor to his reaction). References will be needed, of course -- I imagine NME.com or somewhere like that will have suitable reports from the time. Adam McMaster 11:03, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

I was thinking along the lines of him making a music career with a similar sounding name to Bryan Adams. Obviously, he took offense to the comment, and likely would not have done so had someone just yelled "freebird". That's why I was thinking it might have been significant. Removed sentence

I made a relatively small edit, removing one sentence. The sentence, which followed the reference to Deadheads criticising Adams, read: "Ironically, many of the criticisms leveled by this small group involved Adams's perceived substance abuse, a dubious plea from a group that has embraced the culture of drugs and alcohol so openly." This seems to me non-objective, taking sides with Adams against the critics. It also seems slightly inaccurate. I have read many of these criticisms, and their point was that his substance abuse led to missed cues and botched lyrics at these concerts. That is different from druggies criticizing Adams for being a druggie.Djl.27182 22:10, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

2007 State Theatre Performance

On Thursday September 27, 2007 the singer-guitarist complained about the sound monitors onstage at the State Theatre in Minneapolis. At one point, he actually moved two monitors, his microphone and his guitar pedals.

After 70 minutes he'd had enough. He announced "the last song" and didn't return for an encore. Many fans stood and booed.

Also in Minneapolis, in 2003, Adams gave a notoriously bad performance at First Avenue, a rambling two-hour show where he griped about the sound system, played several songs twice and lambasted local rock legend Paul Westerberg

I'm not sure that it's worth keeping the "Equipment problems" section – I don't think it's notable enough. (Look at it this way, in five or ten years who's going to care that he got angry on stage at a particular performance?) The problem with live bootlegs, and indeed the other bootlegs which are already mentioned in the article, is that there's very little (if any) verifiable information about any of them, so there's not much that can be said about them here. Grandmother

It says in the openings paragrah that Adams was raised by his mother and grandmother. Later on we learn that his father left when he was 9 years old and his grandmother played a MODEST role. Now I know you're not grown up when you're 9 years old, but the statement still feels sort of weird/irrelevant, it's not that special. I agree - there should be something more significant before his wiki reports no longer active. First, artists are never truly inactive. Second, he has been dealing with getting sober, marriage, has a disease of the inner ear, so given his past and everything, I'd say he is just taking a step back. Isn't there an editing regulation that recognizes something obvious? These actions seem fairly obvious with reference to the (sex, drugs, and) rock and roll industry that Mr. Adams is in, and probably warrant little comment under Wikipedia regulations. Liberty5651 This is not a place for philosophical talking. And if you like it then i shall tell you that one shall not accuse someone without knowing everything about the matter. Ryan suffers from various problems and has suffered depression in the past which is scientifically proven to affect you for the rest of your life. If a person A proposes another person B for some kind of collective activity and B didn't resist and proceeds then they are said to land in an agreement (By international law). The exact same thing happened in his case. And for those so-called innocent girls (except Mandy), Why did they had physical relationship if their character was so flawless. Simple answer, Because they knew that they can do nothing on their own and it's not because of male dominance but their inability to be creative. Once he launched them into the industry, they got nothing to lose and accused him of sexual assault which was in fact a "consensual sex". I feel bad for Mandy but all others are cunning and betrayed a helpless person who had been suffering but still lived his life like he was normal. I won't say that he isn't at fault at all but his mischief accounts for 30% of the incident compared to the 70% of those accusers. Sorry if it hurted someone's emotion but that's the truth. I said all that philosophical stuff because you had already started the conversation. Is Recognition bloated

The Recognition section, created by an editor since blocked as a sockpuppet, name-drops more than a half-dozen musicians as having said nice things about Ryan Adams. In my opinion, the second paragraph: "According to some sources, Adams is a disciple of John Fogerty and has opened for him as a member of Whiskeytown at the Star Lake Amphitheatre in June 1998. American author Stephen King has also professed his fandom for Adams and stated, "I won’t say Adams is the best North American singer songwriter since Neil Young…but I won’t say he isn’t either."." is weakly referenced and should be deleted. Another editor disagrees. Rather than edit-war, raising the question here. The Fogerty ref is an article about Fogerty never having played Pittsburgh. In passing, it describes Adams as a disciple of Fogerty, and opened for him once (not well received, and Adams insulted Fogerty. The second is a valid quote from Stephen King - not a musician - sort of complementing Adams. Any Adams fans want to voice an opinion here? About this? About the first paragraph? It is used for fluids and well the recognition is uncomfortably short. Now, Adams didnt disrespect John. It is all about his way of talking and as the article suggests, he disrespected the audience in attendance for not giving a damn to what they were playing. Stephen may not be a musician but he is a hell of an author for America. Weakly Referenced? Wow! Then what source will be considered strong and reliable. Post Gazzette is not a blog or something. It is the one of the largest and respected newspaper servers in the whole United States. (3 Pulitzers!) And the other one is NME which is one of the most reliable source across the globe. You should really check what you are talking about David. These mistakes are unacceptable from someone like you but ofcourse these are tend to happen when you are friends with impotent and rude peoples like Bonadea. Both the contents are well-referenced and possess their own importance in contrast to the section so this debate's outcome should be pretty clear after my comment.

I say it again David, there is still time for you to learn from your mistakes, stop helping peoples like Bonadea and support those who are really working for making Wikipedia great and not themselves great by elevating their edit counts just by reverting edits and causing hinderance in the development of Wikipedia. I accept till this date that you are a nice guy even though what you did to me was really harsh. This shows that i don't give a damn about myself but surely about Wikipedia and good faith editors.
