The Valdes article (ref. 1) is incorrect. Her parents did NOT come to the US to work on the railroad. Her father was a businessman and her mother was busy raising ten children. Neither worked on the railroads. I know this from family history, but don't have a citation off hand. Please note her date of birth. Chinese were not immigrating to work on railroads in that era.
