Brass or wood

I found dozens of sites with the exact phrase in this article, but absolutely no other information. This, along with the lack of a source for this article's information, causes me to doubt this instrument's existence.

Grammar

Aside from the issues with verification and improper style, I think the grammar issues are severe enough to warrant a separate mention. It is very difficult for me to determine what is meant by "that allow establishing," "conical straight tube," and the distinction among "signal, song, dancing, and dance." The description of the instrument is ambiguous because of this. I don't think I can do much to fix this, though, as I am neither familiar with the instrument itself nor with Russian. Okay, I'm not quite sure about this instrument myself, but I think some of the things you brought up can be resolved by looking at the context. I have seacrhed elsewhere on the web, but almost all websites I searched contained at most only one or two phrases that are all suspiciously similar to those in this article. I found on one website, though, something that said instruments may be referred to as 'brass' not because of the material they are made of but the sound that they produce. So, going with the rest of this article you could refer to it as a wind instrument made of wood, I guess... but I would like other input on this before I actually touch the article.Occasionality (talk) 04:20, 8 October 2009 (UTC)

Hello - I am new to Wikipedia "talk" - so please forgive me if I am not using it correctly. Constructive criticism is welcome. Here are my comments - (1) Olivier (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Olivier_Debre) I can confirm that this is a real instrument that has existed for hundreds of years and is still played in Russian folk music groups. (2) A "brass instrument made of wood" means that despite the rozhok being completey of wooden construction, the means of producing a sound is exactly how a player of the trumpet or trombone (or any other brass instrument would produce a sound - i.e. the "lip-reed" method outlined here - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wind_instrument#Types_of_wind_instruments . (3) The sound sample attached to this page appears to be incorrect. I believe the sound sample is a Zhaleika (an oboe-like instrument, with a double reed of cane). Correct sound and video can be found on YouTube by searching for "Владимирский Рожок". Thank you for reading my comments. I welcome advice on how to incorporate my comments into the main article.
