Who actually maintains this road? If there were an accident, which police department would respond? 68.50.203.109 05:03, 1 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

That's a good question. I think Delmar is the dividing point, west of Delmar it's Maryland's, east of Delmar it's Delaware's, considering the route goes on to fully enter those states in those directions. However, I think I saw somewhere that route signs along the state line alternate between the two states. I guess the state line portion is similar to Delmar, Delaware/Maryland itself.-Jeff (talk) 12:50, 23 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
OK, just a follow-up to my previous response. I read about this road a while ago, so if I remember correctly it switches maintenance three times. The first time (going west to east) is when it passes the Mason-Dixon line and enters the state line portion, there it switches from Maryland to Delaware, then after passing through Delmar, still along the state line, it switches back to Maryland, then after turning away from the state line, it becomes DE 54 until the eastern terminus. I'll have to find a source to verify, but I think this info is definitely worth a mention in the article.-Jeff (talk) 02:56, 10 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
Apparently it changes even more frequently than that according to this.-Jeff (talk) 04:16, 7 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Mileage edit

Does anyone know the complete US 50 to DE 1 mileage of the route? Most sources seem to only give the portion from US 50 to MD 353 or from the Mason-Dixon line to DE 1. I'd take some mileages and add them together but I don't know which mileages each source is giving me so I don't even know what I'm adding. The best sources for this seem to be the Wicomico county HLR, MDRoads (which gives the total distance of the Maryland sections, and the US 50 to MD 353 distance), and AARoads (giving a mileage of 38.59, which sounds like the whole route but that's not what it's saying).-Jeff (talk) 20:14, 31 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

AARoads is not a reliable source. Therefore, trust MDRoads. V60 VTalk · VDemolitions · VRoads 16:26, 6 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
MD Roads and the HLR both only give the distance from US 50 to MD 353 unfortunately. AA roads says their distance is from the state line to DE 1, but I'm not exactly sure about that. Do you happen to know where I can find Delaware's equivalent to Maryland's HLR? If they have one, that is.-Jeff (talk) 03:57, 7 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

I have found the solution to finding the total mileage of the route in both states. The DelDOT 2006 Traffic Count and Mileage Report gives a distance of 38.59 miles for DE 54 from the western border with MD to DE 1. Combined with the 3.25 mile distance given by the HLR from US 50 to the DE border, the total distance of the route is 41.84 miles.Dough4872 14:59, 5 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Great find! I wasn't sure if I could trust AAroads' mileage but it turns out they were right. Also, it turns out that the western terminus of the route is MD 313, not US 50. It seems that after the road carrying MD 54 passes MD 313, it picks up that designation and drops the MD 54 one carrying the remainder of MD 313 for roughly a tenth of a mile to its terminus at US 50. Just one of the many quirks of the system I suppose, but as such I have updated the article accordingly.-Jeff (talk) 00:03, 8 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

1. Well-written:
1a. the prose is clear, concise, and understandable to an appropriately broad audience; spelling and grammar are correct. Reading through brings up no errors. I even put the text into MS Word to see if I didn't catch something and nothing came up.
1b. it complies with the Manual of Style guidelines for lead sections, layout, words to watch, fiction, and list incorporation.
  • Lead: Right size and summarizes well
  • layout: The only "problem" is the Bannered Route section and I can't think of where else to put it.
  • W2W: Not an issue here.
  • List: Done correctly
2. Verifiable with no original research:
2a. it contains a list of all references (sources of information), presented in accordance with the layout style guideline. Can I get a citation for the Wicomico County PDF and perhaps a better hosting location?
2b. reliable sources are cited inline. All content that could reasonably be challenged, except for plot summaries and that which summarizes cited content elsewhere in the article, must be cited no later than the end of the paragraph (or line if the content is not in prose).
  • I wish there was something better than the maps but I understand that they are the only sources from the era.
  • Can I get a length citation in the Major intersections section? it is hard to find but there
2c. it contains no original research.
3. Broad in its coverage:
3a. it addresses the main aspects of the topic. I'm not left wanting anything more
3b. it stays focused on the topic without going into unnecessary detail (see summary style).
  4. Neutral: it represents viewpoints fairly and without editorial bias, giving due weight to each.
  5. Stable: it does not change significantly from day to day because of an ongoing edit war or content dispute.
6. Illustrated, if possible, by media such as images, video, or audio:
6a. media are tagged with their copyright statuses, and valid non-free use rationales are provided for non-free content. The map and the images check out
6b. media are relevant to the topic, and have suitable captions.
  7. Overall assessment.
