Using your username; and writing edit descriptions edit

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE:

*ALWAYS sign in with your username before editing. It is common courtesy, plus otherwise your IP address is used and when it is showing anyone who wants to can hack your computer!
* When editing ALWAYS write a very brief description in the edit description box (just above the [SAVE] button). Just a few words describing the edit is fine. It too is common courtesy but also alows others to follow along with the edits.

Photos for Deletion edit

3/31/13 - Removed photo from I-35 section of article as picture was taken along I-35 in South Austin, nearly 20 miles away from Round Rock.

--- — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.140.150.145 (talk) 20:46, 31 March 2013 (UTC) There are really, really poor quality photos. Please add your comments below the photos with your thoughts about them. I think they are of such poor quality that they greatly detract from the article, but also more importantly they detract from Round Rock. (See Georgetown's page for an example of better photos.) But that's just my one opinion. I moved them here rather than deleting them outright. In case somone wants them put back. What do others think? AustexTalk 03:22, 23 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Round Rock's historic downtown district

Comment here: I took both pictures on a cloudy evening. Maybe I was too close to the City Hall to get a better shot. Billy Hathorn (talk) 14:58, 27 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

The introductory photo about "wagon ruts" is pitiful and should be removed, it seems to me. So I will remove it with a Dell Diamond photo. Billy Hathorn (talk) 14:58, 27 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Conflict of Interest re Adding Language edit

{{Request edit}}

Because of a relationship relating to La Frontera I have a WP:COI conflict of interest re adding the "La Frontera" name to this movie paragraph below. If any editor(s)are so inclined, and think it [1]is relevant to the article, they may add the name on the article page roughly in the position shown below. Most articles re the movie list this location, and there are event tours to the site using the development name. If you wisdh to do so please add it in normal black text, of course, rather than copying this paragraph: AustexTalk 18:43, 23 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

The section in question is HERE:
  • The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (original version) was primarily filmed in Round Rock in 1974, in a house on Quick Hill Road where the La frontera commercial development now sits. <ref>{{cite web |url=http://www.texaschainsawmassacre.net/FAQ.htm |title=Texas Chainsaw Massacre (FAQs) |author=Tim Hardin |date= |work= |publisher= |accessdate=July 23, 2010}}</ref> Contrary to popular belief the movie is not based on a true story.....
Not done - I don't see any specific proof on that site, it does not state that the building is now the location of LF, nor does it look like a reliable source. Sorry.  Chzz  ►  06:16, 28 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Not sure I understand, Chzz. Or know what it is that you need as proof. Perhaps there is a better citation I can use. Below are cites from two newspapers. The house was located on Quick Hill Road, and Quick Hill Road is where La Frontera now sits (the road no longer exists and is essentially grown-over ashphalt. The house was moved by Dennis and Barbara Thomas to Kingsland. The info on this being the site of the house and the filimg of the movie is significant (mostly because of TCM groupies and site tours). I just did a Google search on "Frontera Chainsaw Massacre" and got over 100 hits!. Here are a few of them:
  • 2) Here is an AERIALof the site showing it next to the two Frontera Vista offfice buildings. Quick Hill road is to your left. ALL of the land shown here to the major roadway on your left is part of La Frontera. You can go to www.la-frontera.com to see the extent of the development land including The site plan
  • 3) Here is the unofficial Texas Chainsaw Massacre (TCM) 'FAQ page that you questioned above. Question 16 relates to the site being within La Frontera. (I completely agree a fan club is not the best of references but they have by FAR the most detailed information and this page has bene up -- and updated regularly -- since at least 1989.)
  • 4) The Director and an associate are actually (unbelievable to me that anyone would buy them) selling articfats from the movie that includes Artifacts from "La Frontera."
  • 5) This local (Round Rock Leader) newspaper article identifies the site as just west of La Frontera, but what they mean to say is just west of what had been built so far at La Frontera.
So.....do you want or need more information? This is not an issue that is in any way in dispute. It was just an interesting fact I wanted to include because of all the people who find it interesting that it was filmed there. I personally get questions and receive calls about it all the time. But spending time today on proving this up is taking away from my work, my lunch, and from constructive edits.
I'm am happy to add it all over again, this time with better cites. I agree it needs the better cites too. Let me know if this meets with your approval.
However, since I doing it a second time, I will describe it a bit differenly using EXACTLY the wording the Statesman article uses. AustexTalk 17:49, 28 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Conflict of Interest re Adding Language - Second Try and New Cite(s) edit

{{Request edit}}

Because of my relationship relating to La Frontera I have a WP:COI conflict of interest re adding the "La Frontera" name to this movie paragraph below. If any editor(s )are so inclined, and think it is relevant to the article, they may add an edit to the article page roughly in the position shown below and with wording of your chosing - below (in red) is my suggestion. FYI - Most articles re the movie list this location as being part opf La Fronera, and there are event tours to the site using the development name, and Google searchs of La Frontera and Chainsaw Massacre turn up nearly 100 hits. So the facts are not in dispute. What is in dispute is me making the edit. If you wish to do so please add it but be sure to include the two citations!!! AustexTalk 19:46, 28 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
The section in question is here.:
  • The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (original version) was primarily filmed in Round Rock in 1974, in a house on Quick Hill Road [1] where the $500 million, 328-acre La Frontera commercial development now sits. [2] Contrary to popular belief the movie is not based on a true story.....

Here are the refs used above (it shows one duplicate cite because it was also used further above in the list of "proofs"):

  1. ^ Guajardo, Marcial (December 1, 2005). "'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' prequel fiming in Williamson County". Round Rock Leader.
  2. ^ "Howdy Neighbor, can I borrow your saw?". Austin American-Statesman. July 2, 1999.

Partly done: I'm adding a select part of the change now. Thank you for your contribution. --ANowlin: talk 22:33, 29 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thank you very much. Even on these little items I always use {requestedit} when in doubt, but it's hard to get anyone to take a look. I appreciate it. AustexTalk 00:59, 30 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

More Editors Needed edit

We really could use some more interested editors on Williamson County, Round Rock and Georgetown. If you are out there, come on it. Please. Would be most appreicated. AustexTalk 23:04, 27 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Demographics edit

I removed the entire section below because it contradicts the previous info in this section, especially that from Money Mangazine. There are issues of whether this is using average "household" income or "per family" income - and how is that different? I saved it here just in case someone wants to re-write which might be helpful: AustexTalk 02:21, 1 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

According to a 2007 estimate, the median income for a household in the city was $67,492, and the median income for a family was $76,062.[1] Males had a median income of $41,971 versus $30,807 for females. The per capita income for the city was $24,911. About 2.8% of families and 4.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 4.3% of those under age 18 and 6.7% of those age 65 or over.

The 'Historical Population' table, has a 2016 estimate of `Est. 2016 122,767 [39] 22.9%`, which references https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Round_Rock,_Texas#cite_note-USCensusEst2015-39, however that reference does NOT have a 2016 estimate. It has a 2015 estimate of 115,997. I believe this should be corrected. Jrogers512 (talk) 15:13, 17 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Commissioners Court edit

Detail removed from Commissioers Court as this kind of detail is not relevant to the city, and is covered already on the county page. AustexTalk 02:32, 1 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

CIO Edit by Austex edit

Self Disclosure - I made one edit of a citation today (out of many citations) in which I have a WP:COI personal conflict of interest. It is the last citation under "Cotton" and uses a book ("Austin" by Arcadia Publishing) that I wrote and used as a citation. I could find no other immediate replacement source but will continue to look for a replacement citation. Please feel free to revert this edit at any time if you feel it is inappropriate and/or uneeded. I have no intent re promoting the book by using it as a citation. AustexTalk 00:56, 4 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Personally I see no problem with it. you are not "advertising" the book any more than all the other citations adveritise the books they quote. I assume it is a legtimate book and reference. But if you find an alternative reference it would be good to replace it. I'll help look for one as ell. Iluvrr (talk) 14:25, 4 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
I looked up the edit and see what CMR08 means. The problem is the reference is to the book publishing site, so it appers to be an ad for the book. Probably not what you intended. Suggest you take that out if not done so already. Then there should be no problem, I wouldn't think. And of course a replacement reference would be ideal.Iluvrr (talk) 14:31, 4 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
I delted ithe citation entirely today. No use even coming close to a COI. AustexTalk 21:53, 4 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Request for Copy Edit edit

Now that we have added 16 new sections, done extended fact-checking, substantially increased good citations, and went from two to 16 appropriate photos.....it is time to ask for a copy edit. We'd like to do this as part of the process to eventually seek a GA status. Before that, however, many of our citations need to be re-written into more standardized form. Thanks for any advice from the copy editors. AustexTalk 01:00, 6 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

The above is a maintenance template (normally placed in an article rather than on its talk page), and is is not a focused way to call anyone here to perform a copyedit, given that there are currently about 5,000 articles with this particular tag emplaced. I think you will have a much better chance at getting action by posting a request at Wikipedia:WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors/Requests. Just a suggestion:-) Cheers.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 03:55, 6 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, I thought about that and was going to remove it. So I just did. I did re-write the intro section as you suggested, and fixed a few other things. Takinng onnthe re-write of the ciatations is more than I can face right now. But over time...... AustexTalk 20:59, 6 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Adelaide edit

Why is the Adelaide a 'sister city' of Round Rock? The South Australian capital is halfway around the world. Mfribbs (talk) 00:47, 14 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

IH-35? edit

I'm guessing that this is meant to be Interstate Highway 35, which would normally be designated as I-35. Does IH-35 mean something else? Jtyroler (talk) 04:39, 2 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

This is a Texas-ism. Texans have been calling it "IH-35" since the time the highway was built.--Reedmalloy (talk) 23:01, 5 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Climate Incorrect edit

The climate source is from a town called Red Rock, not Round Rock. Red Rock is southeast of Round Rock — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.27.36.130 (talk) 20:46, 10 February 2021 (UTC)Reply
