GA on hold: Explanation edit

This article is close to GA status. I have compared this article to the criteria at WP:WIAGA and have only a few issues that need addressing:

  • Last paragraph on Background and personal life section:
    • Inappropriate tone, POV, should be removed entirely.
  • Reference format
    • Some reference lack full bibliographical information. For articles where authors are named, please name them in your references as well.
  • Image issues:
    • The image is inappropriate. It is a screenshot of a TV program, and as such, should only be used to illustrate an article or commentary about the PROGRAM or STATION in question. Any other use may constitute copyright infringement. This is all in the copyright tag on the image in question. NOTE: This problem goes away if you remove the image entirely. The lack of images will NOT affect an article's GA status, but an incorrectly used one WILL. Untill and unless a suitable free image can be found, consider using no image at all.

The hold will expire in 7 days. Please make these changes within that time frame, and I will promote this article to GA status. If these changes are not made within 7 days, I will have to fail the article, at which point you would have to renominate it again at WP:GAC See me at my talk page if you have any questions. --Jayron32|talk|contribs 00:26, 27 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I've done everything needed. The first thing that needed to be changed was some vandalism someone added...I thought the tone of it would be evident. The second thing has been done, but three of the links have now died. Every other link has the information. The third thing has been done, but it was requested that we need a photograph of her, and she's very reclusive when she isn't on TV, so it's not easy to get a free version. I'm just throwing that out there. Mike H. I did "That's hot" first! 22:39, 27 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Passed edit

All fixes have been made. Some further notes on Images. 1) The copyright tag on most images, and several of the policy pages also state that, and I am paraphrasing from memory. "Images of people merely used to show what they look like may not be covered under fair use." Also, it should be noted, that WP:WIAGA, the good article criteria, also states that no article can be withheld from being a Good Article merely because it has no images. What that boils down to is that in most cases, while "free" images are best, no image will trump misuse of a copyright image. By the way, the page [1] has a picture of her which may be free. It took me less than 30 seconds to find. That image also has a better claim, if it IS copyright, to be covered under fair use, than the one you used. You will have to do some poking around to find out the State of Florida copyright claims on Government images, but even assuming it ISN'T free, using it woudl PROBABLY be fair use, assuming a proper FAIR-USE rationale is provided on the image page. If you need help with this, let me know and I will see what I can do. --Jayron32|talk|contribs 23:04, 27 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

According to the history, this article is the 2,000th Good Article. I'll continue checking this out and report back here when I get more confirmation. Smomo 18:13, 28 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • That image looks good to me, Jayron32. I'll upload it to the Commons with an explanation of Florida copyright. --Strangerer (Talk) 08:21, 23 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Senate edit

She has been rather quiet since elected to the Senate. Any new details we should know about for the article? Mike H. I did "That's hot" first! 07:31, 8 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

State Senator Ronda Storms refused to acknowledge the fact that President Obama is the President during a hearing in the State Senate. Senator Storms repeatedly called Obama, "Senator Obama," "Candidate Obama," then she called him "The Messiah." Mike, you want to add this? --JT (talk) 13:53, 16 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Got sources? If you can find them, I'll work something in. Mike H. Fierce! 04:28, 5 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

NPOV, Weasel Words, Citations edit

There appear to be multiple statements of fact that are not supported by citations. Either the citations linked don't support the statements or citations are not there at all. It is usually preferable to include references after every fact, not just at the end of a long section.

In the Hillsborough County Commission section, Senator Storms' beliefs regarding Sunshine Laws are laudable, but they are also her opinion, not NPOV (and not cited).

Similarly, in the section on the Child abuser sterilization plan, her reasons for supporting the plan are not cited, but are also NPOV.

Regarding the Academic Freedom bill, "source of much controversy" is a weasel term. Please cite specifics or leave it out. (The link to the main article on such bills should suffice to show that there is much controversy.

Her purpose in supporting the bill is NPOV, but might be appropriate if rephrased and supported with citations.

The quotes from "multiple teachers" can not be included unless specific citations for these statements can be made.

Finally, since there is already an article on this bill (Academic Freedom _bills#Florida _bills), this section should probably be merged with that article except for material that specifically relates to Senator Storms.AlanK (talk) 22:01, 26 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
