Rolento Possibly Inspired by the Colonel

Why was the comment I put up about Rolento possibly being inspired by the Colonel taken down? I didn't say he definitely was, I said he might have been. Would it help if I got you a screen grab of a picture of the Colonel from the Fist of the North star DVD? Bear in mind that Fist of the North Star was incredibly popular in Japan when Rolento was thought up, and the characters look very similar. Well, yeah, but the mere fact that they happen to look alike and/or were created at sort of the same time ... well ... it seems pretty tenuous to me, really. Of course, I'm not the one who removed it, so I'm prolly not the best authority on this. --Yar Kramer 15:26, 27 October 2005 (UTC)

Okay, someone went and put it back up, then it was removed again. The guy who removed it the last time, Danny Lilithborne, put in the history that the only similarity he sees is that they both wear red berets. There are others. 1. Their faces. Apart from the Colonel having an eyepatch, which Rolento doesn't, they both look very similar in their facial features. They also both often show the same angry expression continually. 2. Their uniforms. Yeah, there are differences, but apart from the colour, they're really quite similar in terms of overall style. 3. They both carry a large baton. But the most important thing is that Hokuto No Ken was so popular in Japan around the time of Rolento's conception. Also, look at some of the other characters in Final Fight- there are loads of characters inspired by famous people. In the wikipedia article on it, there's a section called Pop Culture that goes through them (someone should probably add in something about Rolento and the Colonel). Besides, all I ever said was that Rolento was *probably* based on the Colonel anyway. Based on the points I've just raised, I think there's a pretty good chance of that. Cheers. Tons of stuff on wikipedia could be defined as 'speculation' if you wanted it to be. Look at the Final Fight article, in the section about Pop Culture. Where is the reference in there to what it says about Andore being a tribute to Andre the Giant? That's just one example. There are loads of other examples like that. Besides, I only ever said he was probably inspired by The Colonel anyway. That leaves plenty of room for people to make up their own minds. Doom jester 10:38, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

Full name?

I know this might sound a bit silly, but years ago, there was a debate regarding Rolento's full name---namely, the lack of any concrete proof that his last name, had one even been coined, is/was Schugerg.

Now, times change and the argument in question could have been plain wrong, but is there any tangible proof of his last name from official literature? Gerk 10:18, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

Well, it's not exactly verifiable, but here is a quote from Tiamat's Plot Guide (it's not up to WP's standards, but I trust this guy personally):

Okay, I finally found the official confirmation that his last name is in fact, Schugerg (well, the katakana is Schugurugu but it probably properly translates to Schugerg). It was in a Capcom released SFZ2 Arcade Flyer. Whew!

Moving Rolento Schugerg to Rolento

I personally think that unless a character has a common name that needs a surname in order to disambiguate it from similar named characters (like Ken Masters or Sakura Kasugano), a character needs to be referred by their common name. Personally, I don't see many people referring Rolento by his (rarely used I might add) full name and Rolento isn't that much of a common name to begin with that he needs a surname to set him apart. Same thing with Cammy (especially when you consider she doesn't have a surname in the Alpha storyline). Jonny2x4 04:31, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

Characters such as Aerith Gainsborough are listed by full name even though there's not really many Aeriths. I think there's precedent all over the place for keeping Rolento as is. Danny Lilithborne 04:56, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

The thing is that Aerith's full name is listed in the instruction manual of Final Fantasy VII, and just about every sourcebook/merchandise related to the game, whereas Rolento's full name only appeared in a flyer promoting Alpha 2 (the Secret File) in Japan and was never used again after that. To fix the article

I notice there are a LOT of extremely short sentences in the article, (examples: El Gado wears a green outfit. Rolento's name was Rolent. Ect.) which kind of ruins it's integrity a bit. Do you think it's possible to fix it up to make it read better, or does it not need it? Sorry if I am imposing, I was only concerned, that's all. --Ralf Loire 12:39, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

The Colour of Rolento's Costume

In the article, Rolento's costume is described as yellow. It certainly is in the Street Fighter games, but in his first appearance, in Final Fight, his costume wasn't yellow. It was more like an olive-green colour. i.e. [1]
