Claire, I think your article is already fantastic! My suggestions are really just personal preferences, so it's definitely completely up to you whether you take any of them!
"Runchey was born in 1759 in Ireland and joined the British Army's 5th Regiment of Foot while it was stationed there." Maybe you could add the date or even the age that he joined the regiment? If you do, it could get a bit clumsy to have so many dates in one sentence, so I might split it up? Maybe: "Runchey was born in 1759 in Ireland. In 17xx, at age x, he joined the British Army's 5th Regiment of Foot while it was stationed there."
"In 1774, around the outbreak of the American Revolution, the Regiment was sent to the American colonies where Runchey fought in battles such as Bunker Hill, Long Island, and Brandywine." I could be making this up, but I think you need a comma between "colonies" and "where."
"The British initially rejected his proposal, seeing it as unneeded, but later agreed after 12 July 1812, when American Brigadier-General William Hull attempted to invade Canada across the Detroit River.[12] Maybe you could add something about why they thought it was unnecessary, if you have any sources on it. Was it because they didn't feel comfortable having an all-black regiment, or simply because they had enough troops on the frontier?
"The Company went on to participate in battles such as Fort George and the Siege of Fort Erie and disbanded on 24 March 1815.[25][26]" Maybe you could add something about the reason it was disbanded?
"He died sometime before 17 July 1819, when he was buried in St. Andrew's Anglican Churchyard in Grimsby, Upper Canada.[28]" It's probably already obvious, but maybe you could add a small bit that directly says that the exact date of his death is unknown, just so it's completely clear. Maybe just a semi-colon at the end: "...in Grimsby, Upper Canada; the exact date of his death is unknown."
