Merger?
editI think "rhonchi" could be included under "coarse crackles" in the page on "rales/crackles." rhetoric (talk) 04:08, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
- Too many of the standard physical exam textbooks classify Crackles as Discontinuous sounds while wheezes and Rhonchi are both classified as continuous sounds. So, although crackles and rhonchi have a similar quality to the sound, they are quite distinct in a few cases.
- 1. Rhonchi can be cleared (at least temporarily) by coughing. Crackles cannot be cleared by coughing
- 2. Rhonchi present from pathology higher in the respiratory system than do course crackles.
- 3. Rhonchi are not typically discreet (lasting around 5ms or less)
- These are just a few reasons why I would not classify Rhonchi under course crackles.
- This is covered more thoroughly in the standard medical physical exam textbooks (Bates, Mosby, Seidel).
