Pronunciation edit

Can someone add something on how one is supposed to pronounce this?

I speak a bit of Spanish, and think it's Re-B(v)ee'-ya-gi-GAY-do, more or less; maybe Re-BEE-ya-gi'-ge-do, though; I might have the rhythm/accent wrong. I have no idea how people in Ketchikan say it, though.Skookum1 20:18, 13 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
I was raised in Ketchikan. The most common pronunciation there is Re-vill-uh-gih-GAH-do.DaddyTwoFoot 21:33, 3 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
I've lived in Ketchickan about a decade and haven't once heard anyone say the full name, only ever "Revilla". (pronounced /rəˈvɪlə/) Sean M. Burke (talk) 07:04, 31 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
I was in Ketchikan for a week, and not only can I spell the name of the city correctly, I heard the full name of the island within the first 20 minutes of stepping off the plane (before I even got across Tongass Narrows). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.58.93.210 (talk) 22:47, 29 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
Just added a reference about the name being shortened to Revilla, as you say. The book says it is pronounced "Ruh-vil-la", but I trust your rəˈvɪlə more than that kind of "respelling". Plus, the book says the name in "correct Spanish" is "Rheh-vee-ya-hee-hay-tho", which conflicts with other sources. I almost added something about the pronunciation of the full name, either in English or "correct Spanish", but, sources differ, it seems. The Revillagigedo Islands page, about the Mexican islands, says [reˈβiʎa xiˈxeðo]. Merriam-Webster says \ri-ˌvi-lə-gə-ˈgē-(ˌ)dō, -ˈge-\ [1]. Dictionary.com says, for the Mexican islands, [ri-vee-uh-hi-hey-doh, ‐vee‐; Sp. ee-vee-yah-hee-he-thaw, ‐vee‐] [2]. Pfly (talk) 18:36, 31 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Map edit

The map is simply a map of Alaska and does not show the location of Revillagigedo Island. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.163.187.163 (talk) 07:45, 23 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

I think I just fixed it. It seems to have been a problem with the template {{Location map USA Alaska}}. I've noticed other Alaska pages with missing "pushpins" on location maps. Apparently the template doesn't work like {{coord}}--you have to name the fields lat_deg, lat_min, lat_dir, etc. Rather annoying really. Pfly (talk) 09:05, 23 June 2011 (UTC)Reply
