- "RemindTime.com - you could just about use this service as an alarm clock!"
- "MemotoMe is the only service I tried that actually takes into account your time zone ... time settings are a lot more flexible in this service" (free service does not include plain text option)
- "you can use Google Calendar to send yourself email reminders." (but mostly just to your gmail acct)
MemoToMe does a great job of sending the email at exactly the right time. RemindTime is a little more confused about the time the emails are sent, and all times are GMT only. Both sites do a terrible job of telling what time it is (neither makes this important information available). The RT emails are very simple text -- too simple, not even mentioning the date or time of the event being reminded. MtM gives more complete event information, but insists on sending an HTML msg that is 9KB instead of 2KB. Both sites send reminder msgs that are completely generic; the event title is not mentioned in the subject line, forcing you to read the whole msg just to find out what you are being reminded about. Dumb.
It would be good if there was a source of information about how each of these free services makes money, and how long each is likely to be in business.-69.87.200.173 14:07, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you! Your diligence is very impressive -- it took you less than an hour to make sure that useful information, which took me over an hour to gather and organize, was removed from the main article!! Without the great armies of deletionists, who knows how amazingly useful WP might become? Fortunately for your team, you can remove information in bulk much more efficiently than contributors can carefully generate it -- and pretty soon, most such would-be contributors get discouraged and stop making much of an effort, making your job that much easier! (I know nothing about DMOZ. It is unranked, uncategorized, unreviewed mush. If it was useful, I would not have had to spend hours learning about this subject. Why should I want to waste my time getting more involved with it?) - Indeed, thank you Calltech. It is deletionists like yourself who prevent WP from becoming unranked, uncategorized, unreviewed mush. Thank you for keeping Wikipedia amazingly useful!
- Now, seriously - Thank you for your contribution. I'm sorry it was reverted. However, on Wikipedia we prefer to add content versus links to content. This is spelled out at WP:EL. Calltech was actually nice enough to move the links to the talk page. I would have just reverted them. Please, be civil. This page is commonly attacked by spam, and so it is heavily patrolled. There's your reason for the long edit history. If you think you can add things to the article to make it less stubby, PLEASE do so. But adding external links is not the way to do it. --Mdwyer 20:31, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
Article title edit
"Reminder software" may not be the best title for this article. Maybe something along the lines of "Events reminder services"? And, since the article does not have an agreed, generally used standard title, no matter what it is called, most people interested in the subject will not find it -- until it contains the names of the major services, such as MemoToMe, so that content searches will find it. (Of course, I certainly won't waste my time trying to improve the article in any such major ways, since someone is sure to object and take such useful information out.)-69.87.199.140 19:01, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
