Death of Dalziel

According to Amazon.co.uk, 'The Death of Dalziel' will indeed be published in 2007. I don't know if it makes sense to list it yet, or add a comment to that affect in the main page. rsp 6 August 2006

changes to biography

I am making various changes in the Biography section – in the third paragraph, primarily – some of which are simple copyediting or improvements to unnecessarily obscure or unencyclopedic language, while others are an attempt to remove original research into the techniques Hill used, etc. The section also suggests a fan-like point of view that I will attempt to moderate. The changes are:

1. remove one errant comma
2. remove the unsupported statement, "Clues may also be provided in such a way that readers sail past them, only realising at the end how their own assumptions have been exposed", which is hardly unique to Hill's work; in fact, that statement could probably be applied to nearly every mystery/detective/crime (whichever term you prefer) book ever written. A primary motivation in writing all such books is to hide clues from the reader.
3. replace the pretentious and difficult (try looking it up at TheFreeDictionary or Dictionary.com) "œuvre" with "work of art" (I know I could have replaced it with "oeuvre", but that solves only the dictionary problem while remaining unnecessarily difficult: let's not force readers to use a dictionary if we can avoid it.)
4. remove the highly original and unencyclopedic "In a different kind of tease, ...." It sounds like an editor showing off, and the sentence reads just fine without it.
5. remove "In another departure from the norm, ..." for exactly the same reasons
6. change the unsupported (not even by the quotation it introduces) and highly editorial "The unusual force of Hill's writing career is suggested by a comment he made ..." to "Hill commented ..."

I believe these changes moderate the unencyclopedic and fan-like tone of the section without seriously impacting any important information about Hill's life and work. The section probably still needs some pruning, but this is all I'm doing right now.

If anyone feels compelled to revert any of these changes, please explain why below.
