"Low importance"? edit

Rebelstar was the game that lead directly to UFO: Enemy Unknown, XCom and Rebelstar Advance. It's a very important game in the history of strategy gaming and I can't understand the "Low" classification. - Zagrebo 22:29, 10 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'd agree, but I'm probably biased. BTW, I'm not sure if the ZX Spectrum should have a rating higher than mid... --StuartBrady (Talk) 03:15, 11 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
FWIW, this (almost finished) MSX port is one big reason that I didn't change the importance myself. Once I've completed it, would a link be out of place? (There will be a disassembly of the Spectrum version, too.) --StuartBrady (Talk) 20:50, 15 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
I've changed the importance to Mid, considering the place this series has in the development history of later tactical games such as Laser Squad and X-Com, and the overall critical success this series had. Marasmusine 14:50, 18 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Java version / public domain edit

I notice that the link to William Fraser's Java port was removed as a possible copyvio. Actually, Rebelstar is PD, but it would be best to confirm this through OTRS. See Talk:Laser Squad#Public domain. I'd rather not get too involved due to two earlier disputes regarding Laser Squad screenshots, though. --StuartBrady (Talk) 13:33, 19 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

That's jolly nice of Mr. Gollop, if that's the case all we need is a reliable reference for it (Although for Rebelstar, wouldn't the game's copyright be held by Telecomsoft?) That Laser Squad page looks a bit uncomfortable. Really only one screenshot is required. Take a look at WP:Images#Image choice and placement. Marasmusine 07:11, 20 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
Well, I would have thought that he wouldn't try to put it in the public domain, without actually having the copyright beforehand. As for the images, I do agree, there are too many... Of course, if they're orphaned without being tagged as PD, they will be deleted. --StuartBrady (Talk) 09:48, 20 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Cultural References? edit

Was wondering if a cultural references section should be added? A couple of things off the top of my head are the rebels in RS1 named Slartibartfast (from Hitch-hikers' Guide to the Galaxy) and Sid Vicious. RS2 featuring lightsabers and the shuttle being a perfect copy of an Eagle from Space:1999.--Co fragment (talk) 13:49, 17 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Unfortunately, not without going against Wikipedia's original research policy. Even just flat listing all the characters in the games might be seen as indiscriminate information Best we can do is list the ones scoured from magazine reviews (YS pointing out the similarities with Aliens, for example.) Alternatively we can make a RS entry on a gaming wiki such as those listed at the bottom of WP:VG and list such cultural references. Marasmusine (talk) 20:10, 17 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
A quick web search turns up several sites that mention Rebelstar's character names, so it might be sufficiently sourcable and notable. I'd like to see such a section here, but may be biased by being a fan of both the game series and another of Jim Digriz' gigs... Pastychomper (talk) 12:07, 9 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
