Small numbers

From the wikipedia page:

Components, albeit in small numbers, were able to be sourced from suppliers, due to the charitable status of the organization.[8]

Declaration of Interest

I'm doing paid work for the Raspberry Pi Foundation, and they have asked me to fix some errors and suggest improvements to this article, all in line with Wikipedia policies.

I'll be posting some edit requests in due course, but first I intend to make some (hopefully) non controversial edits such as an address change, fix some egregious errors and add citations.

Magazines

I have removed the following, as they are published by Raspberry Pi Limited, which is not part of the foundation:

• The MagPi is the official magazine of the Raspberry Pi.
• HackSpace is a magazine "for people who love to make things and those who want to learn" DIY, 3D printing, etc.
• Wireframe, is a magazine about videogames and videogame development.
• Custom PC, launched in is a UK-based computer magazine.

Scope

Please replace the second sentence of the lede ("It was founded in 2009 to promote the study of basic computer science in schools, and is responsible for developing the Raspberry Pi single-board computers") with:

The Foundation's charitable purposes are to advance education of adults and children, particularly in the field of computers, computer science and related subjects. The foundation, founded in 2009, is part of a group that also comprises legal entities in India, Ireland, and the United States, which carry out educational activities in those jurisdictions, and Raspberry Pi Ltd, a commercial subsidiary that develops Raspberry Pi computers and other hardware. The foundation’s charitable activities are funded through a combination of Gift Aid from the profits of Raspberry Pi Ltd, contracts for the delivery of educational services e.g. professional development for teachers, and donations from individuals, foundations, and other organisations.

At the same time, please remove the entire "Products" section, as these are not products of the foundation and are better described at Raspberry Pi.

However, the request was to remove "It was founded in 2009 to promote the study of basic computer science in schools, and is responsible for developing the Raspberry Pi single-board computers" and replace it with the provided wording. You have left the former, which is in part no longer true and is unsupported by recent sources; the Foundation is not "responsible for developing the Raspberry Pi single-board computers". The wording which you omitted is not intended to be promotional, but to reflect the organisation's "charitable purposes" (a facet of UK charity law), which are set out in legally binding articles and charity registration ([1]), and differ from those at the time of its foundation.

Please reconsider and, if necessary, use your own words to convey these points. (To reiterate; the point is that "to advance education of adults and children, particularly in the field of computers, computer science and related subjects" replaces "to promote the study of basic computer science in schools" as the charity's legally registered purpose.

 Partially implemented The products section has been omitted. The lead section remains because the proposed substitute is unclear in its wording (e.g., "the foundation is part of a group that also comprises legal entities in India, Ireland, and the United States, which carry out educational activities...", which inadvertently comes off sounding clandestine.) @Spintendo: Thank you for your recent edit. It is good to see this inching forwards. I'm not clear how the suggested wording appears "clandestine" - can you elaborate, please? My request was that you provide something which sounded more coherent and explained things a bit better. Describing a company as "a legal entity that does educational things" doesn't really impart any useful information. Also, the best way to indicate that you're ready to reply is to change the answer parameter to read from yes to no—not to ping. Clandestine means "Done or kept in secret, sometimes to conceal an illicit or improper purpose." You have advanced no argument why the wording can be read that way (I used a ping because I wanted to attract your attention specifically in the expressed hope that you might do so) and, therefore, I can make no sense of your objection, nor divine what changes would satisfy it. Notes

Raspberry Pi Limited

This article is dedicated seemingly exclusively to the Raspberry Pi Foundation, with its for-profit subsidiary Raspberry Pi Ltd being given only brief mentions, with no expansion on the subsidiary's business. I think the article should be reframed to better handle both of these topics -- à la OpenAI -- given the business success of the Raspberry Pi platform, as well as RPi Ltd, with the subsidiary accruing investment from major companies such as Sony at a $500 million valuation. I don't see any of my points approached in the above discussions. Additionally, while the Raspberry Pi article does cover some aspects related to RPi Ltd, particularly with manufacturing, I disagree that the article covers RPi Ltd "in depth". It would be less confusing to readers for both operational components of RPi (RPi Foundation, RPi Ltd) to be covered in an organization page, rather than split between two articles.
