RangiyaRangia – Spelling of place name is Rangia, as specified in government records. There is an existing redirect Rangia and please move this to that name Marlisco (talk) 05:13, 7 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

  • Support - more common in English and the official name. Bobby Martnen (talk) 15:31, 7 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
  • Comment - As an native of Kamrup region where Rangiya is also located, i can say that spelling "Rangiya" is more consistent with native pronounciation. Here is the important local and national dailies with others using the same:
So do you mean to oppose this or just to comment? Imc (talk) 18:29, 10 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose - the existing name is the standard in RS. Search books with a disambiguation (necessary to filter out references to other uses of the names including the shellfish Rangia) gives rangia assam 1740 hits and rangiya assam 3150 hits. Imc (talk) 18:29, 10 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
  • Please note that all the external links given above are from Indian newspapers. Indian newspapers don't usually follow any policy regarding English spellings of place names. It would be a better if the editor has pointed out any government websites using the spelling, Rangiya.
  • Except Indian railways no other government bodies use the spelling Rangiya. Moreover the dual spellings of English place names in India is a common feature and is the most inconvenient aspect in digitisation drive.
  • Even in Wikipedia there exist two different spellings. So kindly decide/debate either of this spellings and unify it. Let that unification begins with Wikipedia.
  • I cannot agree with भास्कर् Bhagawati as this is not a feature unique with this name. In fact most of the Indian names on romanising has this issue and usually ia is preferred over iya. We can debate on this but I hope there will be no dispute on the need for unification of spellings. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Marlisco (talkcontribs) 06:45, 11 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

@Imc I surely oppose. भास्कर् Bhagawati Speak 22:25, 11 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

@Marlisco I invite you to see Assamese spelling of Rangiya anywhere, its ends with Ya represented in English by Y. भास्कर् Bhagawati Speak 23:19, 11 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

@Rangia City Editor "YouTube and other video-sharing sites are generally not considered reliable sources because anyone can create or manipulate a video clip and upload without editorial oversight, just as with a self-published website. However, official channels of notable organizations, such as Monty Python's channel, may be acceptable as primary sources if their authenticity can be confirmed, or as a secondary source if they can be traced to a reliable publisher." Regarding the YouTube channel (Facts Market GLP) source, it might not be reliable for Wikipedia due to the lack of editorial oversight and credibility. Consider using more reputable sources like established news organizations, academic publications, books, or official websites. AMNR0011 (talk) 07:39, 10 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
