School Colors

A common misconception is that on of the colors of RCHS is navy. It has rather been named "lapis" in honor of William Butler Yeats' famous poem "Lapis Lazuli."

How about you source navy blue being the school color?

I'm not denying that the color may be lapis, but you need to provide a source. I don't have a source either, but navy is the widely accepted color as far as I know. Until a source can be found we will not list any colors. Also, I'm guessing you are Jeick, who attends RCHS currently and have the resources to find the color. I also don't have any concrete sources, but for what it's worth, I can confirm that when RCHS was founded, the original school colors were silver and lapis, not navy. As a practical matter though, navy has always been used. As such, and especially considering the lack support for the lapis claim, I think navy can be considered the de facto school color. I currently go to RCHS and I can confirm that the school color is "lapis". But how do you source that. Thetheroo

Its pretty Informal, has been mentioned in the school newspaper once or twice. But it is generally a student consensus that the school color is Lapis. Thetheroo

I have looked for sources on the whole lapis issue but could not find anything. I ended up looking at emblem designs for the RCHS and it uses the colors silver and navy. I used the emblem design page as a reference as it is the best thing we have as of now. Acidskater 03:34, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

There is no source for the Lapis claim mostly because of the lack of public archiving of old newspaper articles/yearbooks (i.e., Flame issues prior to 2005). Your source only indicates that RCHS screen prints navy onto their athletic apparel - probably resulting from the lack of Lapis as an actual available color for print (or at least within reasonable costs). Reply from RCHS student- The color is indeed lapis, freshmen are told the first day of open house or orientation. Although there are no real print colors for lapis, we just use navy blue. They are similar, but lapis sounds cooler and we use that.--Phoenixphanatic 00:51, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

That doesn't matter if they tell freshmen on the first day. If there is no source for it then it can not be put in here. When there is a source which states this then it can be put in there. Reply from RCHS student- But, what if there is no source on the internet? There are, as another user said above, several mentions in the school newspaper. Those are concrete. They exist. Also, lapis is generally not a color that is common in screenprinting or inks. That is why we use navy... it is esentially the same color, but lapis has more of a historic value and is cooler to say and is unique. --Phoenixphanatic 02:15, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

If you have that newspaper with that evidence, that is a source. You must be able to say which issue and what page. If you want more information go to WP:CITE and WP:V. Also, beginning your comments with "Reply from RCHS student" does not help your case. You might want to do it, and it is perfectly fine, but it won't help your argument. I myself graduated from RCHS in 2006 and my sister graduated from RCHS in 2004. It doesn't help my argument either. You may want to refer to WP:NOR "No Original Research" as to why. Attendance Data

I believe the total attendence, average class size, and student to faculty ratio are off

I think you're right. I believe that data is about two years old. At this point the school is closer to 400 students. Perhaps this article should include a part about the recent controversy about the school's "no free lunches" and the accusations of elitism.

Reply from RCHS Student (October 1, 2007) Yes there are just under 500 students. Who has accused the school of being elite? The school is not a private school, there is no tuition, and so private schools are elite, and I'm sure lunches there cost money. There are opportunities at school for cheap food, healthy snacks (yougurt, apples, granola bars, cheese) are sold at school every day starting at 50 cents and going to $1.50, perhaps someone would like to add this. Mission Statement

I have seperated the mission statement into its own section for clarity, but the future tense is still awkward. If anyone has ideas on how to make it more straightforward, please do. Benstrider 22:30, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

Rowing team

North Carolina has other high school rowing teams. In Raleigh, there's Wake Rowing and Broughton/Enloe, I believe. Now, if "varsity" means something in particular that those teams aren't, then okay. The remark on this page that Raleigh Charter has the only varsity crew team in NC was made in Nov 2005. Daniel M. Roberts 21:50, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

The distinction is that other teams (ie: Broughton and Enloe) are club sports, not official school varsity teams.
