Localisation of the US drone

here we can read : "The following day Iran said the US drone had violated Iranian airspace, while the United States said that it had been in international airspace eighteen nautical miles (34 km) away from Iran."

but, why the us drone was-it found in the iranian sea ???? if not, why the Navy don't try to get the shooted drone in the internationa sea ?
