New Page for Pseudomonilicaryon anser

edit

Because of an old taxonomic error (dating back to Dujardin, 1841), the Wikipedia article entitled Dileptus anser described an organism properly called Dileptus margaritifer (a dileptid ciliate with a relatively short neck and scattered macronucleus). The confusion between the species is very widespread (most of the scientific literature before 1984 refers to specimens of D. margaritifer under the name D. anser). Since the corrected taxonomy is uncontroversial and accepted by leading authorities on the group, the contents of the article on Dileptus anser have been moved to Dileptus margaritifer (with some revisions).

The ciliate correctly referred to as Dileptus anser Mueller, 1773 (a long-necked dileptid with a moniliform macronucleus) has recently been reclassified in the genus Pseudomonilicaryon. Consequently, for the article on that species, I have created a new page under the name Pseudomonilicaryon anser. Dileptus anser will be redirected to this page.
