Wii version edit

The Wii version will be released in the first quarter of 2008 (That's January-March) in order to improve it more; As Konami said that this version wil be released until is considered appropiate for distribution. Too bad I cannot edit the page in order to put the "Q1 2008" Wii release date and the Wii Remote in the input section. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.160.9.207 (talk) 01:19, 22 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re: Thanks for the Wii release date! But the Wii Remote input isn't still written... And one question ¿Will the Wii will be an improved port of PS2, a (slightly) graphically downgraded port of PS3/360/PC, both ports with a new control system, or will be started from scratch? The edit feature is great, and will be sad if they remove it... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.160.9.207 (talk) 15:23, 22 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

The official release date of the Wii version is the 28/03/2008 (88.109.107.19 (talk) 02:44, 7 January 2008 (UTC))Reply

The Wii version is now out and i feel should have at least its own section as the new control system is completely different. the modes and set-up have also changed somewhat. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.212.231.155 (talk) 02:02, 1 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'll add more info concerning the Wii version, but I strongly feel it should get a separate article, because it is radically different and made by a completely new team. —Preceding unsigned comment added by NSider (talkcontribs) 15:40, 3 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

PS3 Problems edit

There is an article on Konami's official website which confirms the PS3 version suffer's from online lag and other problems.

"We have uncovered issues which affect online gameplay quality of PES 2008. We are working at full strength to find a solution as quickly as possible. We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience." [1] —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ssb9 (talkcontribs) 09:44, 10 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Serbia edit

Should it be noted that Serbia are actually "replacing" Serbia and Montenegro? I know the team will be basically the same, but all the same, its a change. Thom32

Serbia is not replacing Serbia & Montenegro as Serbia and Montenegro are now two separate contries and therefore players are not the same while most of them are playing for Serbia some of them like Mirko Vucinic are playing for Montenegro. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.228.74.13 (talk) 10:04, 29 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Size edit

Is this game really going to be 36 GB in size? Sounds a little off to me. Phs1234 21:53, 20 June 2007 (UTC)GHJTHJERYJERYJERYJEJERJEWRTY364UTHUT4RUYHRTHTRHRHTRHRTHReply

I agree. The reason they say that is because of the Blu-ray. No developer will be using that size for a long time, though, especially as that would require EIGHT discs for the PC version (which wouldn't be much of a problem due to installation, though the space might be), and likewise for the 360 version. Which would mean an awful lot of disc-swapping.
Anyway, I removed the speculation as per WP:OR and WP:CRYSTAL. --Dreaded Walrus t c 14:16, 21 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
No this is BS, even on the PS2 it only used 2GB.

PES 7 edit

why isnt the game called PES 7? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 210.49.207.126 (talkcontribs).

Probably because they don't want to end up like Final Fantasy, a decade from now, with Pro Evolution Soccer 16. Aside from that (and the ability to have a title that the public can easily put side to side with EA's FIFA series), I couldn't really say. --Dreaded Walrus t c 04:57, 24 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

I think it could be to do with the fact that the japanese version, winning eleven, would have been called winning eleven 11 this time, and that sounds stupid. Chubbyman9 15:37, 28 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Is there a valid source to the displayed release date of Oct. 26th because if not it should be removed as it's misleading.

- Strangely enough the game has still not been released(29th October) in Hungary (I thought that HU is part of EU). Nevertheless shops are full with FIFA 08 and tv is flooded with FIFA adverts...i guess people here are in love with FIFA...yeah it has hungarian commentary in it..so what ?! They told me they ll be getting PES 2008 some time in November?!!

Why is the English league on the confirmed list considering it hasn't actually been confirmed. There are only 2 licensed English teams at this stage, if you're going to put that in the list then you might as well add "Belgian league - 2 teams licensed, Turkish league - 3 teams licensed". If its not been confirmed then it shouldn't be in the confirmed list! --82.27.238.163 23:09, 21 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Licensed teams edit

The source we have for them at the moment isn't trustworthy, it was the supposed clubs konami wanted at that time. Newcastle will surely be licensed since Owen is confirmed as a cover athlete. Peoples opinions on this? → jacĸrм ( talk | sign ) 10:35, 3 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

I agree. I saw an interview with Darren Bent on Sky Sports News today, and whilst it's not related at all, he was shown playing what was a version Pro Evoultion Soccer, with one of the badges on his screen being none other than: Newcastle. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.29.218.163 (talk) 23:48, 3 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Per Jackrm i do not see a Blog as a good enough source, the source should really be from Konami, and i am aware the blog has a link to justify the list but unless you didn't notice that is just another blog. El-Nin09 20:46, 15 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Stadia for PS3/360/PC edit

I am a bit worried that the ports for the "higher end" platforms have not as many stadia as the PS2 version, will this be the final case or is that list on the main page incomplete? 89.243.251.44 19:22, 28 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Teatro Blanco edit

I believe the Teatro Blanco in the game is the counterpart of the Casa Blanca Stadium in Ecuador... since it is located in south America this could be the reason... it could be the stadium for the Ecuadorian national team and their increasing success... if in the game the stadium has a capacity of around 55,000 then it definately has to be the Casa Blanca —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.136.43.120 (talk) 19:30, 15 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Game play for PS3 edit

I have just read a review for the PS3 I'm gutted!!!

PES's PS3 debut stumbles far too often

The bitter battle between fans of the two next generation consoles can at times be a nasty exchange. Supporters of Microsoft's Xbox 360 take great pleasure in pointing out, at every opportunity, the PS3's failings - the lack of exclusive triple-A games, the high price and the late ports. The PS3 camp claims a more powerful console, HD movie playback built in and the ability to fit more on a Blu-ray disc compared with a DVD. But one thing that PS3 and 360 fans alike must admit is that developers are, on the whole, finding it hard to get to grips with Sony's console. Some have pointed out the complexity of the system, while others speak of issues with the way the console handles memory. Either way, we have seen some very high-profile PS3 games that have suffered from slow-down, less than impressive graphics and glaring drops in frame rate. Unfortunately nowhere is this more apparent than in Pro Evolution Soccer's debut on the PS3.

Put simply, the game suffers from horrible slowdown and drops in frame rate that happen too frequently to ignore. The first thing we did when we booted up the game was start a two-player exhibition match between Newcastle (one of two licensed English teams, the other being Tottenham) and Barcelona. We randomized the stadium and the weather effects. It turned out we played in Estadio Da Luzii in the rain, in the wide view of course, and this is what we experienced.

Whenever the ball gets more than a few feet above head height, you'll notice the frame rate drop to worrying levels. Goal replays are a jerky mess. The game will slow down to what feels like a snail's pace whenever more than half of the players are on screen at the same time. There's quite significant and frequent tearing too. Perhaps you can get used to the slowdown, if you play long enough. But the annoying thing is that when the game inexplicably and implausibly slows down, it puts you off your timing. Well-timed sliding tackles turn into dangerous lunges, and, with the new super harsh refs, usually result in a red card. Split second decision making and well-judged shots are made almost impossible when the penalty area is crowded because the game engine suffers a stroke. PES has always had issues with slowdown, but I'm sad to say that PES 2008 on PS3 is the worst for it in the series. Quite frankly, this isn't the next generation, silky smooth, high-definition interactive experience PS3 owners were promised when they handed over their hard-earned cash.

We were so shocked by the slowdown and frame rate problems that we dropped the resolution from 720p to standard to see if it had any effect. All it did was take the HD sheen off proceedings. Then we tried using the AV lead the PS3 comes bundled with to see if that helped. The only difference here was the graphics looked even worse than they do normally. Stunned, we plugged the HDMI cable back in and put the resolution back up to 720p just to give the game one, last chance. PES has given us so much pleasure down the years that it at least deserved that. We set up a game just as before, in the rain, in the same stadium and with wide view, and we experienced the same problems again.

... graphically the game is distinctly average. In a wide view (the view any serious PES player plays in) that game looks poor compared with the same view in Fifa 08. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 167.127.24.69 (talk) 14:35, 25 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

The game doesn't work on Windows XP64 edit

Well... that's pretty much it. Except if you edit the .msi file with Microsoft's Orca... but that's another story. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.181.35.144 (talk) 19:34, 26 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Critisicm edit

There is no reference to this section, there should be links to some official reviews like IGN, etc. Also I also don't see any proof that this game has been bashed by everyone, and there appears to be some difference between the PS3 performance and XBOX 360 performance offline (whose online peformance definately is poor). Needs to be re written. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.187.149.226 (talk) 10:35, 29 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

The PS3 version has received a number of poor reviews, ie 6.0 from Gamespot, and so if somebody has the time, please re-add it and put it in a way that will mean that somebody can't justify removing it. Konami should be particularly ashamed of how it mislead PS2 users, as the Pro Evolution 2008 PS2 version is simply a modified version of Pro Evolution 6 (basically only the menus/teams have been updated), without any of the "new" features such as Teamvision AI, Diving or Shirt Pulling. If you want widespread criticism by fans, check the amazon.co.uk pages for example, or indeed jeez any gaming site. I'm so dissappointed by the PS2 version as are a number of other fans (I own the PC version as well so can vouch for the absolute difference in quality) that I can't be bothered going and getting all the links, but if somebody else can, they aren't hard to find. Rather than a criticism section, these points should go in the "reception" section though, as Wikipedia encourages us not to use criticism sections. One thing I do agree on though is the fact that the PS3 version hasn't been slated by all, and many fans such as myself are actually impressed with it. I'd say its the PS2 version mainly that needs commented on. I mean jeez how did Konami actually get away with that? --Simonski 12:56, 3 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the conflict of interest, in that IGN advertises in-game and "surprisingly" the IGN website gives it 9.0 . This is despite the consensus amongst fans that game hasn't really improved. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.12.25.4 (talk) 11:58, 30 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
The XBOX 360 version is buggy, replays are jerky and unwatchable, but more than that the live mode is completely unplayable with the ball floating around at random then catching up with itself. Sometimes ending up with the ball in the net, then correcting itself by taking the ball back out of the net again and giving a corner for example. The game just wasn't finished. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.233.8.45 (talk) 16:01, 30 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Well, Konami has been getting away with that for years now, they always use the same old trick of taking out an essential feature and re-introducing it latter as a new feature. In short, PES has been exactly the same game for some 4 years now. Anyways, Konami ripped people off with the PS2 version -however- the PS3 deserves all the negative criticism, PES 2008 on PS3 is the most boring game on the market, it is not football, it is definitely not next gen, and it is by far the most disappointing game of the year. (Luis, Spain)

game mistakes edit

Igor Burzanović (Red Star Belgrade), former captain of Montenegro national football team is registered as a Serbian player.

FK Crvena Zvezda/Red Star Belgrade is named "FC Red Star Beograd" (name in English for Beograd is Belgrade)

(minor mistake) Simon Vukčević (Sporting Portugal) has in real life name on the strip "Simon" instead of "VUKCEVIC". Stefke (talk) 21:31, 18 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
