In depth section edit

Adding of section: 'Stamps showing the effigy of Nicholas Horthy or members of his family' is not a valuable addition at this place. Too much in-dept for these particular issues which are not that important or special in the stamp history of Hungary. It makes this article focus too much. suggestion: create a separate article. This is a general article about the stamp and postal history and such in depth details about a few stamps have no place in this article. A general introduction, or mention would be more appropriate. Could you imagine how long the article could become if such details were added for all stamps? Such details may not even be appropriate for a separate article because the stamps thenselves are probably not notable enough. The appropriate place for all this detail is in the World Stamp Catalogue where Hungary has as yet no entries. Have a look at Postage stamps of Ireland to see what constitutes the only philatelic featured article and shows what type of content makes up a great general article. The other issue I have is that the copyright status of the images is incorrect. They may still be copyright and the uploader claims copyright which is certainly false when they were issued by the Hungarian postal service. The copyright may be determined by the death of the designer and that is usually 70 years pma. ww2censor (talk) 15:03, 27 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
I have no objection to this article being moved to a more appropriate philatelic article or to re-creating it as a independent article, perhaps "Hungarian postage stamps depicting Admiral Nicholas Horthy and family" or something like it. However, I am in some doubt now about where to write in greater detail, if at all, about, for example, Hungarian postal cancellations, the numbering system used for post offices and sub-post offices, postal overprints, etc. and probably won't contribute any of this to wiki if it is going to be controversial. I am willing to listen to advice but I have no appetite for arguments and disputes.
Regarding copyright issues: it can reasonably be assumed that the designers were adults when they designed the stamps and that that was more than 70 years ago. I have the copyright to photographs taken of the stamps. My above comment re arguments and disputes applies.

There is no reason to have any disagreements, we are all volunteers here and most editors are happy to help others contribute. Seeing as you are a new editor it may take some time to learn the ropes and figure out what works and what does not and where you feel most comfortable contributing. Normally we would have this discussion on your talk page but as it was started here, I will continue it here for now.
First, you cannot assume anything about copyright which is a rather complex issue. You either know that a stamp is specifically freely licenced, such as the Faroe Islands stamps or it is still under copyright for varying lengths of time. You cannot claim copyright of a stamp image because it is just a derivative work, even though you took the photo of the stamp you did not design it, so that right is held by the postal administration who issued it or by the designer. I will investigate that further but this commons:Commons:L#Hungary shows that Hungarian copyright is 70 years pma and as an example, one of the designers, Ferenc Helbing died in 1958, so his stamps are likely copyright until 2028. Any use of such images might be possible under fair-use on this wiki but not on the commons, however, they must then comply with all 10 non-free content policy guidelines. You may find it useful to read my image copyright information page.
As mentioned above you are welcome to expand the general article so it reaches comprehensive coverage of the topic. There are individual article about some specific notable stamps and stamp issues but, also as mentioned above, the details you added is more appropriate to the wikibooks catalog for Hungary. You can copy it over there yourself. I don't do any wikibooks editing. You should add your information there for now and help expand the general article. Also remember that we need it to be supported by reliable sources. If you need any assistance just ask. ww2censor (talk) 19:50, 27 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hungarian names edit

Currently some of the Hungarian names are given with surname first and others with surname last. Can we be consistent, one way or the other, please? ---Ehrenkater (talk) 16:50, 14 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
