Port Misery

Port Misery. It's mentioned in almost every history of South Australia because it's where the earliest immigrants first arrived into the province. Why it is described as being north of the modern Port when the gazetted placename shows it being to the south of the modern port somewhere on the Tam O'Shanter Creek (roughly the northwest corner of the Port Canal shopping centre)? Can we get this right by referring to a few sources? I need another one to be sure. Donama (talk) 00:38, 19 August 2020 (UTC)

Yes, the landing place at Port Misery was to the south of current Port Adelaide - I think I have a photo of the plaque at the site, which is now in West Lakes. Part of the confusion may have arisen because there was an early proposal to construct the "New Port" further north, just south of the North Arm. Bahudhara (talk) 04:40, 19 August 2020 (UTC)

Nice work @Laterthanyouthink:. Much improved. I was riding by that plaque at West Lakes just before the lockdown and suddenly realised that was the actual spot. Old Port Rd leads straight to it!
