No mention of ciliopathy for ARPKD

edit

This article is missing many important details. It should not be considered authoritative in any regard. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.111.205.44 (talk) 17:22, 2 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

article requires expansion.

edit

while it is not short enough to be a stub,i think this article is much to short, esp for a disabling and relatively common and one of the leading causes of renal faliure.so any wikipedian knowledgeable in nephrology should contribute.169.244.148.235 (talk) 20:51, 26 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Also there are several contradictions. The article states that there is a dominant and recessive strain of the disease yet later on states that 90% of cases are caused by the dominant strain and the rest are random mutations. This is highly confusing. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 135.196.119.175 (talk) 20:43, 3 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

alternative treatments

edit

I have noticed that there is a section on the possible alternative treatment of polycystic kidney disease. The section entirely lacks any references, and there is a dubious-discuss tag next to the information. While I firmly believe the information in this section to be false and support it's immediate removal, I thought it would be best to discuss the matter here first. I removed the soy milk part, and really the 4th reference needs to go because it doesn't have anything to do with the statement at all. But the entire section needs to go unless you can list a source that states what you are claiming. Because the way it reads is, one source says y about x and the other source says that z can do this to y, so I'm going to draw a conclusion and make a definitive statement based on that observation. But that's speculating, which really has no place in an encyclopedia article. 173.26.61.114 (talk) 16:50, 2 July 2010 (UTC)miaReply

There is still speculative language in this section after eight months of discussion. Additionally, the speculative nature of the section has not been resolved with appropriate references. If no one objects, I'm going to remove this section. Mlcastillo (talk) 15:00, 20 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Can Polycystic kidney disease also be caused by taking performance-enhancing anabolic steroids???

edit

Can this disease also be caused by taking steriods (like some bodybuilders and athletes do)??? I wondered because this guy Dan Duchaine, known as "the steroid guru" (and also a twice convicted felon) died of it at age 48. Maybe its just a coincidence - I don't know - I'm not a doctor - I only heard of this disease today. Thanks in advance to anybody who knows.88.105.75.9 (talk) 12:18, 9 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Just a note, there is an FDA approved treatment now:
