The origin of the name is most likely the Cranbrook schools in Bloomfield Hills Michigan. The boys school was founded in the early 1900's and the children of many auto company officers attended over the years. Bloomfield Hills is an exclusive suburb of Detroit, home to many of the auto company officials.
