Article name

I think that this article should carry the name Château Viger rather than Place Viger, as it seems to be the name used by the property's owners. Having been designed by the same architect as the Château Frontenac and Chateau Lake Louise it would also keep things consistent. MTLskyline (talk) 21:14, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

Although consistency is often used as a rationale related to article naming (usually in terms of issues such as disambiguation or use of diacritics), it can't be the primary justification for an article name where the evidence doesn't otherwise really support such a name. I note that the website you've linked to calls the building at various times the Viger Hotel, the Viger Station-Hotel and the Château Viger. They don't even appear to have settled on a name. I also note that the site is part of a visioning exercise for a proposed redevelopment -- God knows what they will be calling the building once it is restored and redeveloped. The building appears to have had as many names as it has had decades in existence (including, it would appear, informally Château Viger). I'm not convinced the current name of the article is the best one, but at least it was the official name and the name that appears to be most used in the history and architecture books. I'm not sure what the sudden rush is to rename the article (this is the second different proposal in as many days), especially given that the relevant sources use a variety of names (not suprisingly given that the building and the site have been so long neglected). Personally I'd be patient and see what they actually decide to officially call the project, and come to an assessment then. Otherwise, if we decide to move forward before then, I would suggest we need a bit more analysis of the various potential names. Proper research through archival material available at heritage montreal will confirm that this hotel was called chateau viger. As well, where has the article about Square Viger gone, it is one of the most historically significant squares in Montreal.
