Work in Progress

The Pickering, North Yorkshire, page needs more work yet. I am continuing to research "climate" and "nearby places" and have yet to add images but put the text on to encourage others!! ---- Harkey Lodger 15:30, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

Advertising and links

The addition of the Wayside Caravan Park link and the Accommodation section are personal advertising. Should these be removed to Wikitravel as a more appropriate site?--Harkey Lodger 18:03, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

City ?

I've just noticed the "City" tag. Pickering is by no means a city. May I remove this?--Harkey Lodger (talk) 21:39, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

I assume you mean the project WikiProject Cities as the article mentions it is a town. The WikiProject Cities covers all sorts of settlement not just cities if you read the initial statement on the project page or the template above so I think it should stay. Altered the order of the sections to come more in line with WP:UKTOWNS. The text is a bit dated now as well so I'll give it a bit of TLC ASAP--Harkey (talk) 15:59, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

Toponymy?

I was surprised to find none -- but then my on-line search came up empty too, until I found this:

"an Old English group name Piceringas meaning ‘the people of a man named Pīcer’.
