Book sources

edit

Hi, all of the book sources need the specific pages where the texts are cited. Whispyhistory, do you need help adding them? I can show you how to do it as long as you provide me with the exact pages. MX () 01:00, 20 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

@MX: all help appreciated. Thank you. Let me get back to you later today hopefully. Whispyhistory (talk) 05:21, 20 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
@MX: was this not correct? [1] Whispyhistory (talk) 06:01, 20 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Whispyhistory: It is, though if you're citing multiple pages, other citation formats are preferred (since they are more specific). I personally like to use this example: Fidel_Castro#Citations. The [#] cites the author and the page. And when you click it, it sends you to the entire book at the bottom. This format is preferred when citing over 5 pages, or when the pages are not consecutive.
Thompson, Gilbert (2014-02-11). Pioneers of Medicine Without a Nobel Prize. World Scientific. ISBN 9781783263868. and Pugh, Peter (2015-09-17). The Heart of the Matter: How Papworth Hospital transformed modern heart and lung care. Icon Books Ltd. ISBN 9781848319431. still need the pages. Let me know if you want me to help you with the format above. MX () 14:14, 20 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
Thanks @MX:. This is link to page in Pugh book.[2]. How should I have referenced it? The witness seminar on Terence English article needs sort out too.[3] Back in hour or two. Whispyhistory (talk) 15:11, 20 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Whispyhistory: Hmm, seems like the pages are not available online. In that case, just leave it as that. But I would highly recommend the format I linked above when using multiple pages. For other non-book sources, I would also recommend Template:Cite web and its sister templates (i.e. Template:Cite news, Template:Cite journal, etc.) This helps editors fill up references entirely (this prevents WP:LINKROT) and helps readers trust Wikipedia by looking at the quality of the sources. There's a [Full citation needed] tag that someone added in ref 15. I would start with that one. Thanks! Nice job with this article. MX () 16:27, 20 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

thanks again @MX:. I hope you will help me out again. Whispyhistory (talk) 16:52, 20 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

  • My pleasure, if you ever need anything just ping me. In the future, I can show you how to archive sources too (that way they don't die overnight – I've had that happen to me with some rare sources). MX () 17:03, 20 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
@MX:. hi, just working on id reaction and added 2 books. Back tomorrow but before I go further, should I improve on the book citation? Whispyhistory (talk) 15:56, 22 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

What caused his death, so young?--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 02:38, 20 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

@Kintetsubuffalo: good question. I couldn't find the cause documented anywhere. Whispyhistory (talk) 05:23, 20 November 2017 (UTC)Reply
Professor Caves performed life saving surgery on my heart in 1978 when I was a baby.
He died exactly 5 months later to the day. He died from a heart attack while playing squash. According to my parents, many of the nurses at Yorkhill Hospital feared he would, “become one of his own patients” because of the rapid pace he kept up with very little rest. A truly brilliant man I owe everything to. May he Rest In Peace. 142.160.103.71 (talk) 14:05, 24 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
