Talk:Peyton List (actress, born 1998)

More recent picture needed; particularly since there happens to be two of them edit

Could we possibly get an updated photo for this page. My daughter searched her name and got to this page, but remarked on how the image looked nothing like the actress she is familiar with on Disney Channel. I looked at the page and noticed the hatnote. Surprised to learn that there are two Peyton List's, and without reading the note carefully, I immediatedly clicked on the link to Peyton List. Only to find out that was wrong actress and we were on the right page to begin with. Any photo at that page, or a more recent one here would help with this kind of confusion. I agree with my daughter (a rarity) that the photo in this article (which is from four years ago) looks nothing like she does now.--Racerx11 (talk) 03:27, 15 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

The photo is the only free-use photo available and it does accurately reflect her appearance in 2008. The link marked "Resume photo" in the External Images box is a more recent photo, and that is why it was added there, but it cannot be used directly as it is not free-use. If you can find a more current free-use photo please upload it to commons and link to it in this article. --Geraldo Perez (talk) 03:50, 15 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
One of the things I have yet to try on Wikipedia is the searching for free-use images and uploading them. Maybe I will look into it at try to find something. --Racerx11 (talk) 15:51, 15 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
  Done, I just updated the photo. --Simon.hess (talk) 22:07, 3 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Page move from Peyton Roi List to Peyton List (actress born 1998) - explanation edit

Originally there were two articles for two similarly named actresses, "Peyton List" and "Peyton Roi List" with hatnotes used to direct readers to the proper article. As noted above the normal search is for "Peyton List" and some confusion resulted as readers looking for "Peyton Roi List" missed the meaning of or misunderstood the hatnote there. This led to a number of edits to the "Peyton List" article that included information meant for "Peyton Roi List" article and readers not finding the information on the correct person. Most wikilinks for meant for "Peyton Roi List" were piped and displayed "Peyton List" to the reader. Credits were being incorrectly wikilinked to "Peyton List" as well.

There are, as I count it, 4 credits that are valid "Peyton Roi List" credits on IMDb and in Wiki - all the rest state "Peyton List" and needed to be piped - something not always done leading to links to the wrong article.

Because of this and according to guidance and the actress example at WP:NCPDAB, I moved the old "Peyton List" article to Peyton List (actress born 1986), moved the "Peyton Roi List" article to Peyton List (actress born 1998) and created a disambiguation page at Peyton List. This way searches for "Peyton List" will immediately go to a disambig page instead of the wrong actress article and credits that say only Peyton List will be tagged as needing disambiguation, instead of going to the wrong article.

I have also updated all incoming links for all the articles so they go to the correct places. --Geraldo Perez (talk) 05:49, 3 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Younger actress self admits she goes by Peyton R. List to avoid the confusion, at source: — Saltman, Laura (14 October 2013), "A Tale Of Two Peytons: Jessie's Peyton List On Sharing Her Famous Name With Other Peyton List", Access Hollywood, NBC Universal, retrieved 29 November 2016 Sagecandor (talk) 01:56, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
That is not reflected in the credits for the shows she is in and that is her WP:COMMONNAME. Also there is a redirect at Peyton R. List for those looking for that name. Geraldo Perez (talk) 02:01, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
We should respect the tactic chosen to be used by the person herself to avoid the confusion about herself, as we now have a secondary source that says she calls herself Peyton R. List. Sagecandor (talk) 02:20, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
Obviously she actually doesn't commonly use that name as her formal credits in recent projects don't reflect that. When her choices are reflected in how she is chooses to be formally credited in her projects and how other people refer to her we might reconsider. Geraldo Perez (talk) 02:23, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
We should go by what the secondary source itself says, and not make up our own research about what to do here. Sagecandor (talk) 02:26, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
WP:COMMONNAME disagrees. Geraldo Perez (talk) 02:28, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
Actually I'm seeing lots of hits in many different secondary sources for Peyton R. List. To avoid confusion, we should go by what the actress has said herself, and by those secondary sources. Sagecandor (talk) 02:31, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
What she says is not being reflected in her credits and Peyton List is still the most common name. When she chooses to change her SAG-AFTRA name and starts getting more known and credited by some other name then a change in article name is reasonable to consider. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Geraldo Perez (talkcontribs)
That seems like a long time to wait and meanwhile more secondary sources will get more confused for no reason that could easily be avoided. Sagecandor (talk) 02:38, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
Changing the name of this article avoids nothing. We have redirects for all the alternative names and that is sufficient for anyone searching for the article by whatever name she uses. That is the point of redirects. Changing it from Peyton List adds another layer of confusion as explained above where I justified my original move to this location. Also note that the first line in the intro says Peyton Roi List. At this point in time WP:COMMONNAME supports this title. If that changes in the future then a move may be justified. Geraldo Perez (talk) 03:02, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
Clearly the changes you made have not alleviated the confusion as evidenced by verbatim discussion of the introduction in secondary sources "This Wikipedia description is accurate and true. The problem? It’s true about two different people." Sagecandor (talk) 03:07, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

I don't know what that editor was up to because he did not accurately quote the intro sentence of this article as it has been since 2008. This article says and has for a very long time said "Peyton Roi List (born April 6, 1998) is an American actress and model" not as he stated in his article "Peyton List is an American actress and model". His purported confusion does not seem supported by what was actually here to alleviate that possible confusion. This not an issue for anybody actually reading the article and not looking for an interesting topic to write about. We have been very careful with these two articles and an incomplete article by an outside source is creating a look of confusion that does not actually exist. Geraldo Perez (talk) 03:26, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Alright, okay, Geraldo Perez, that might very well be, thank you for explaining that to me. Now we have some more clarity with the intro sentence change by AngusWOOF. I agree with this edit by AngusWOOF, that adds some sorely needed clarification, thank you AngusWOOF. Sagecandor (talk) 03:30, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Twitter account as official site edit

So far we don't seem to have a web site other than her twitter account that could be considered her official site. Twitter, as a social media site, is generally discouraged per WP:ELNO and should be replaced if something better can be found, but it is still permitted for use in this article as it is pretty much the only site that "give[s] the reader the opportunity to see what the subject says about itself". Geraldo Perez (talk) 21:19, 28 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Why the page move? edit

@DirtyDurg1: I'm curious about the page move, from Peyton List (actress, 1998) to Peyton List (teen actress) — as well as the page move from Peyton List (actress, 1986) to Peyton List (adult actress). It may not be a problem right now, but in two years, when the younger List is 20, "teen actress" will become an outdated description and we would need to perform another page move. The original names of the articles, at least IMO, were fine. Also see the topic "Page move from Peyton Roi List to Peyton List (actress born 1998) - explanation" earlier in the talk page. MPFitz1968 (talk) 14:18, 8 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

@MPFitz1968 and DirtyDurg1: No reason at all for the page move. No discussion and the pages for both actresses were properly disambiguated in the first place. Also disambiguating to (teen actress) and (adult actress) are very poor choices as one will age out of that and the other remains ambiguous as 18 is still an adult. I undid the move. If a move is desired, discuss it first. Geraldo Perez (talk) 15:04, 8 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
As I also mentioned in the RFDs, both Lists have worked as teenage actresses and models. Dismbiguation by year is best. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 21:24, 8 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

The Swap edit

Hello. My account is not verified, so I cannot make an edit, but don't forget that Peyton List was a star actress in The Swap. If anyone can make that addition, please do! Thanks! Ean173 (talk) 04:13, 14 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Peyton Roi List edit

Use full name, Peyton Roi List, to differentiate between the two actresses. Sagecandor (talk) 01:04, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

See #Page move from Peyton Roi List to Peyton List (actress born 1998) - explanation in this talk page. There already is a redirect at Peyton Roi List for those looking for that name and that redirect is linked to from the 3 articles where she is credited that way. Her WP:COMMONNAME is Peyton List and that should be the article name. Geraldo Perez (talk) 01:59, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
We now have a secondary source that says she herself goes by Peyton R. List to avoid the confusion. Sagecandor (talk) 02:19, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

So.. why not name the title with middle letter R. - as she name herself? Roeelo (talk) 22:12, 6 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

See #Page move from Peyton Roi List to Peyton List (actress born 1998) - explanation in this talk page. Still applies. Geraldo Perez (talk) 02:17, 7 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Added info, section on actresses with same names, from interview with Access Hollywood by younger actress edit

Shared name with fellow actress Peyton List (born 1986) edit

Peyton List shares the exact same name with a fellow actress, Peyton List (born 1986).[1] The younger Peyton List was interviewed by Access Hollywood about the confusion.[1] She told Access Hollywood that she will sometimes go by Peyton R. List to avoid being confused for the other actress of the same name.[1] Normally SAG-AFTRA, the trade union representing actors, has a strict policy about avoiding having actors with the exact same name, but this instance went by unnoticed.[1] The younger actress explained how that came to be: “I guess I signed up with my real name and she signed up with her middle name."[1] The two actresses have appeared together — when the older Peyton List starred on the soap opera As the World Turns as character Lucy Montgomery, the younger Peyton List appeared on the same program.[1] The younger actress said much confusion occurred with the production staff for their respective television shows when they ended up staying at the same hotel:"“We stayed at the same hotel actually at one point and we got each other’s call sheets and I got voicemails for her and she got the same thing from me."[1]

Maybe we can discuss here on the talk page and perhaps come to a resolution here? Sagecandor (talk) 02:28, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
Instead of edit summaries as the main tool for communication, could we discuss this more on the talk page here maybe? Sagecandor (talk) 02:33, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
I guess it's okay to just wait and if there is no explanation in this section for why we can't have clarification in the first sentence of the body text itself, it's okay to just add it back later after waiting a while for a reply here. Sagecandor (talk) 02:40, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
Status and plan going forward: -- [1] Here is the edit that adds the clarification to the first sentence [2]. Compare with the confusion from the secondary source: 'Peyton List is an American actress and model.' This Wikipedia description is accurate and true. The problem? It’s true about two different people. I plan to not take further action about this particular piece of content in the first sentence -- but if there's no reply in this section on the talk page explaining why it should not be added, then it can be added back after waiting a sufficient amount of time first. Sagecandor (talk) 02:46, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
It's been explained to you that the note to clear up any potential confusion isn't the problem, it's that it's unnecessary to openly have it there. Using a WP:HATNOTE is sufficient. Amaury (talk | contribs) 02:48, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
I'd prefer it be explained on talk page here and not via edit summary and to have requests to discuss on talk page be ignored. Still waiting. Sagecandor (talk) 02:49, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
You didn't get what I said. Geraldo clearly explained to you two different times that the note itself wasn't the problem, it's how you were presenting it. It is unnecessary in the open. Amaury (talk | contribs) 03:08, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
(edit conflict) I stongly disagree with adding something that is explicitly covered by an existing hatnote. That is why we have hatnotes and this situation is well and correctly covered in that manner. WP:OPENPARA also does not make any allowance for this type of info. This is article is about one particular person and significant info about someone else is really not in WP:SCOPE. It is fine to have a section in the article about the confusion but that has excessive detail as currently written. Geraldo Perez (talk) 02:51, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
Geraldo Perez thank you for coming here to this section of the talk page as requested to discuss as per the 3rd step in "bold, revert, discuss", at WP:BRD. I think the main concern here is that secondary sources have already looked at this very Wikipedia article and stated the verbatim first sentences are confusing. So we now have outside evaluation from third party readers to Wikipedia. Sagecandor (talk) 02:54, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
It isn't Geraldo's responsibility to follow WP:BRD, it's yours since your edits are the ones challenged, not his. Amaury (talk | contribs) 03:08, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
Hopefully we can all agree it is in the spirit of collaboration to communicate on the talk page as much as possible when editing when anyone has a conflict, whatever the side may be. Sagecandor (talk) 03:12, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
I don't think the first sentence needs to be sourced to that column. It should just indicate her full name, birth date, that she is an American actress and model, and what she is known for. Just as with George W. Bush mentions 43rd President of the United States, Peyton List (1998) can say that she played Emma Ross in Jessie, as that's by far her most known role. There's also that other section down below that talks about how the two are confused so in the opener paragraph, maybe that can be briefly mentioned.. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 03:20, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
@AngusWOOF:I agree with AngusWOOF, that is a great idea to add to the first sentence what she is most known for, and I like your example of George W. Bush. Sagecandor (talk) 03:22, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Remove Twitter link from External links section edit

Per WP:Twitter-EL, we can remove the Twitter link from the External links section. Sagecandor (talk) 03:26, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

WP:ELNO Says generally we do not put social media external links but at the top of the section is makes an explicit exception for exactly one that could be considered an official site if nothing better can be found. The link is OK until we get a better official site. Geraldo Perez (talk) 03:37, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
Okay, okay, alright, I see that, but she also has an Instagram, Reddit, and Facebook. Maybe the Facebook would be best instead. Sagecandor (talk) 03:39, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
Twitter's fine for now. The others aren't needed unless she uses them far more than Twitter as the primary correspondence. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 03:44, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
We try to pick exactly one that is verified and is the best one for personal info. We can't have more than just the one. If another one is better than twitter, we use that, and drop twitter. Geraldo Perez (talk) 03:48, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

I've tried correcting IMDb in the past and it is not fun and I have found it very frustrating. I prefer to stick with Wikipedia as I at least somewhat understand how things work here. Geraldo Perez (talk) 04:58, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
Oh, okay, I'm sorry you had that negative experience with IMDB in the past. It's too bad that still to this day that IMDB is confusing the two actresses. Wish there was some way to help with that. Sagecandor (talk) 05:02, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
There isn't. Believe me, IJBall has also tried to no avail. Something to do with one of a series' seasons having 20 episodes instead of 21 or something like that and they cited other unreliable sources as their justification. Amaury (talk | contribs) 05:09, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
Ack that's really too bad ! Sad to hear that about IJBall but thanks, Amaury, for letting us know of those prior experiences. Rename Article To Peyton Roi List edit

It should've never been named Peyton List (actress born 1998) when it was first created. The other Peyton was born in 1986 and is 12 years older than her.

So an article name change to this would be great. People with names like these have to be disambiguated which is already done for both of them. Please let this happen.

Singing career edit

At this point, the article only shows two sentences: She performed with Ingrid Michaelson at one of Michaelson's concerts. In 2018, List released her first single "Liar Liar". Plus, Filmography lists an appearance in one music video. Collectively, this is not enough to establish her notability as a singer. I'm thinking if she releases at least one album or at least two or three more singles, that might tip the scale, but I'm not sure at exactly what point we can classify her as a singer. Thoughts? And perhaps other music-related criteria that could establish her notability? MPFitz1968 (talk) 15:29, 24 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

WP:NSINGER should be met if she is to be considered notable as a singer. Basically non-trivial coverage in multiple sources as a singer or had an album or single charted. Geraldo Perez (talk) 16:51, 24 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
Heck – they never even had her sing on either Disney show she was on! Considering that letting the singers "sing" on the Nick and Disney shows is common, the fact that they didn't even have List sing (solo) on either of her shows tells me that she's not much of a singer. Certainly not to any extent that "singer" is a viable "career"!... Once again, until she charts a song somewhere, this should stay out of the article. --IJBall (contribstalk) 02:31, 26 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Issue in Awards and nominations edit
