Paul the Equivalent edit

Born Peter Halajian in Armenia, he immigrated [...] changing his surname to the English equivalent Paul.

This seems to say that Paul is a translation of Halajian (or of Halaj?). But Paul (name) says the Armenian equivalent of Paul is Poġos. —Tamfang (talk) 09:12, 23 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Tamfang: I agree and removed the statement that "Paul" is any kind of "English equivalent" of "Halajian" in 1177238284. I did not dig too deep into verifying this but online sources seem to claim Halajian (Q37291128) is an Armenian surname of Persian/Iranian origin (the "-ian" suffix) meaning something like "mattress maker" (in digging more there seemed to be little actual evidence to support such a claim). Interestingly enough there is a surname Halaj (Q116499208) (apparently of Slavic origin) but there were few references that attributed any specific meaning to it. —Uzume (talk) 22:17, 26 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
I believe –ian is the Armenian patronymic suffix. —Tamfang (talk) 03:12, 27 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
